LOOKING FOR THE 2010 SECOND LINE-UP? RIGHT OVER HERE.

GO WILD IN THE NEW BIG DAY OUT 2010 FORUM.

After months of hearsay, the 2010 Big Day Out line-up has finally arrived. The summer roadshow is once again set to be a heavyweight affair. Triumphant at the top of the bill is blockbusting trio Muse, who’ll bring their sci-fi theatrics back to the mainstage. This time, though, they will lead The Resistance as headliners.

The international contingent is bursting at the seams in 2010. After a knockout tour last year, The Mars Volta has been lured back to unleash its visceral live show on Big Day Out. UK festival kings Kasabian will rally the people with their bona-fide anthems, while irrepressible pop star Lily Allen renews her honorary Aussie passport.

Further down the list but perhaps most exciting for many FLers are Atlanta metal juggernaut Mastodon, well-heeled upstarts the Horrors and indie idols The Decemberists in the – œside stage for those in the know’ spot.

As ever, a good chunk of the line-up is Australian-made. All touting new albums in 2009, Powderfinger, Grinspoon and Eskimo Joe head up the local charge. WA’s exacting masters of prog-rock Karnivool are on hand to help sweat it out, while the likes of Ladyhawke and The Temper Trap start the dancing.

Both, really.
None of the bands are talentless by any means, I've enjoyed albums by all of them.
But I've just grown so tired of them.

Yeah, you're right. I can admit to enjoying some of their earlier stuff, except Hilltop Hoods which is just plain horrible. Perhaps talentless was a bad choice of word. Still, at least it moves the bogan crowds away from the smaller stages to make bands like TVOTR last year a lot more enjoyable than if it was in a room packed with sweaty, shirtless lads with southern cross tattoos.

See, I even like Hilltop Hoods. I was actually listening to The Calling earlier today and I think it's got some of the best songs Australian hip-hop has ever produced.

Yeah, it was nice to have all the bogans at Sneaky Sound System while TVOTR played this year, haha.

I can't stand hip-hop, especially Australian hip-hop so I guess it is a given that I won't like them. Kind of sad that they are the only band to come out of Adelaide for a long time. We have a lot of talent thats still playing to around 20 people.

As for Adelaide, Wolf & Cub are doing pretty well for themselves.
And have you heard of Duane Barry? They're one of my favourite bands from Adelaide.

Yeah, I forgot about Wolf & Cub. Hopefully there will be a few more Adelaide bands out there soon. There's two albums coming out soon that I'm sure will make it onto the radio-waves in some form.

Hadn't heard of Duane Barry but I checked them out just then. Not really my thing :)

Timetable is going to suck, even though i don't want to see any bands from the 2nd announcement, i'm sure there will be clash central with the bands i want to see from the first.

Powderfinger, Eskimo Joe, Grinspoon, Hilltop Hoods, Jet are all major Australian bands that are main stage material, but surely with all of them at the same festival, they can't all be on the mainstage? No? Dreading the main stage timetables.

I'm glad they're on the lineup if it means there's less chance of bands I want to see clashing.

I want to see Passion Pit, The Decemberists, Mars Volta, Sasha and I would like to see Muse but would miss them rather than any of the others. I know that at least some of them will clash (especially considering Sasha will probably close the Boiler room).

Tame Impala and Decoder Ring would be aiite as well. Maybe Mark Dynamix and Siman Mobile Disco. It basically comes down to whether I feel like dancing or rocking.

Would be nice to know the set times now so I know whether I need to go to a sideshow.

I have a feeling Sasha will do some kind of afterparty.

It's all so complicated. :p

I think it will be Lily/Kasabian. There will be bogans galore for Lily or Powderfinger so I guess you'd better get there early if you want a decent spot for muse.

yeah i find the 'big' aussie bands i.e. powderfinger, grinspoon, jet, eskimo joe, and hilltop hoods are so much worse than the less popular aussie acts.

Yeah but you said Future is better than ALL festivals this season bar Days Like This. Soundwave, Laneway and Golden Plains outdo Future in both quality of acts and originality. Fair enough if you like the Future acts more than the other festivals, but your statement is just outlandish.

Edit: Not to mention its the fact most of the Future acts have toured in the last year. Hell, I think there is only 4 acts on the line-up that I haven't seen in the last 18 months. Some twice.

eskimo joe played the hordern pavilion earlier in the year, and from what i heard tickets sold pretty well.
jet have a show coming up at the metro, which is a third of the hordern's size, and tickets are still very much available.

so yes, i'd say eskimo joe in 2009, for all their faults, are bigger than jet - who haven't exactly progressed gracefully themselves.

eskimo joe is crap... they are boring on stage and their music is bland. grinspoon was awesome back in the days before new detention and now just bring out thoughtful stuff which is not their audience. powderfinger havent had anything special since my happiness and jet, while still producing decent stuff never really had a fanbase and shit me with the singer yelling yyyyeeeeeeeeeeeaaaaaaaa in all their songs.

now karnivool is a great auzzie band that i will definitely be seeing.

i will probably see grinspoon for the 2-3 songs they will play pre-chemical heart, i will probably see powderfinger to listen to my happiness and get ready for muse. i was just stating my feelings on the subject.

karnivool, i am actually looking forward to seeing as their music is something different that i can really get into and i hope they are on the main stage as they deserve.

edit: my opinion of eskimo joe is from when i saw them at live aid 7/7/07 and they were crap.

the d was pretty straightforward in gc for mastodon. having started walking in as the band came on, i got near the front (about five or six rows back) before 'oblivion' had finished. if you left just before tame impala finished you would be able to get a good spot in a fairly short time.

excellent... in contrast to this, im tipping getting into the D barrier towards the end of dizzee / start of lily will be next to impossible. but im hoping that by the end of lily ill be into see volta...

yeah that might be a bridge too far. dizzee and lily were both absolutely packed, the border of the d was literally rocking backwards and forwards a couple of centimetres when dizzee was playing 'bonkers'.

guessing also there will be a mass exodus after lily of the britpop brigade..
but number 1 priority of the day is to be in D for volta.. coming from Juggernauts I may have to leave early but even then its not goig to help much if D is already full.

yep that was my priority too, it was easy to get up the front in gc though. tmv didn't draw as big a crowd as i expected. i left during 'roulette dares' (turned out to be the last song anyway) to see ladyhawke on the essential stage and her tent was packed out...

So it'd make more sense waiting until Lily's finished to try and get in the D rather then during her set?

Also how long's the wait for toiler/water lines generally?

dunno about the toiler line, but the toilet line was pretty long. the water is (as usual) the stupid ticketing arrangement, but the 'don't turn a night out into a nightmare' section is the place to go - the people there pretty much just give out as much water as you want.

also the security guards at the back of the d have water sprayers to fill up people's spray bottles/water bottles etc.

as for tmv, i would wait until the end of lily's set to try and get in the d, but make sure you get fairly close to the d during her set so you have a shorter way to go.
