Hopetoun Hotel closes itsdoors

Hallowed Sydney haunt the Hopetoun Hotel tonight confirmed it will be closing its doors for an indefinite period. This morning, a sheet of paper was displayed on the hotel’s door bearing bad news: ‘The Hopetoun is closed until further notice’.
With punters expressing their disappointment throughout the day via Twitter and Facebook, the venue’s owners issued a further statement. “Due to circumstances beyond the control of the Hopetoun Hotel we need to carry out significant works associated with Local Council requirements which necessitate the closing of our venue until further notice,” it reads. “We regret to advise that we must therefore cancel all future shows booked to play at the Hopetoun as from today.”
One of the city’s best-loved venues with a gig most nights, the Hoey will be greatly missed. The close-quarters stage has hosted many prestigious acts over the years, with an atmosphere that puts the music first. Should the venue re-open in the future, there’s sure to be a long queue waiting to raise a plastic schooner in its honour.
