We must have done something right when the Pixies toured Australia in 2007 for the first time in 20 years, because less than three years since they triumphed at V Festival the band are coming back. The forbearers of grunge have announced that they will be bringing their Doolittle tour to our shores this March.

The tour is part of the 20th Anniversary celebration of their seminal 1989 album Doolittle, which included some of the band’s biggest commercial hits, including Monkey Gone To Heaven, Here Comes Your Man and Debaser. The shows will see Pixies play all 15 tracks from the album and any related B-sides.

Pixies – œDoolittle’ tour dates:

Sunday March 14 – Sydney, Hordern Pavilion
Thursday March 18 – Brisbane, Convention Centre
Saturday March 20 – Melbourne, Festival Hall
Wednesday March 24 – Adelaide, Thebarton Theatre
Saturday March 27 – Perth, Belvoir Amphitheatre

In an interview with FasterLouder last year, Black Francis revealed that the band had planned to record in Australia on their last visit but didn’t find the time. We have all our fingers and toes crossed that they schedule in a few extra dates between shows this time round!

i used to be friends with them and go to parties at their old house before they went away.. there was always bands and stuff playing there.

the greatest crime the art ever committed was to not follow the jet/vines/powderfinger/grinspoon wannabe ocker quasi-pub-rock template and actually making music that they seem to enjoy playing rather than catering to an unimaginative lowest common denominator by chasing hits and radio play. their music is derivative? exactly whose isn't? they're doing enough to impress artists as diverse as nin, sonic youth, marilyn manson & the pixies to add them as tour support so i'm gonna take a wild stab in the dark and suggest those opinions matter a little more than those of posturing anonymous internet toads... but perhaps i'm wrong, i probably wouldn't be too keen on people casting aspersions on the quality of my band based on who i was sleeping with... but then again i wouldn't be too fussed about losing the respect of so called 'music fans' that formed their opinion that way either... :) back on subject though... the pixies!!! mck

The movement of the Adelaide date mean I can now attend, but it's the same night as BTBAM. I was tossing up between the two but will attend Pixies because their Taste of V show was one of the best concerts that I have ever seen, I know they will be playing a great set list and the look on friends face when I told her i couldn't go in the first place is still haunting me. Should be a busy couple of days with Brand New not long after.

that's the impression you got from this thread? would have thought there was a higher proportion of overly zealous haters as opposed to fans... i think what you're picking up on is that the 'fans' (i'd never thought of myself as one but i'll wear the tag) are just marginally more articulate than the overwhelming majority who struggle to get out "omg the lead singer fucks a veronica they must suuuuuuuuuck" without a spelling mistake... :) mck

He actually gets a high five for schtoopin a Veronica. The whole "popstars" and wanky name changes is where he loses credibility. The music won't save him, it's one dimensional with nothing remotely interesting going on.

fair cop, no band is going to be everyone's cup of tea. i've only seen them twice so my opinion isn't the most developed but i enjoyed them both times. their rhythm section in particular impressed the hell out of me - driving and tight and it might not have hurt that the bass player is as easy as hell on the eye... as for azaria, i don't go by the name i was born with either so far be it from me to comment on his choice of name but he's a good guy, a pretty quintessential front man really, and that'll do me... i don't really care much for his past or personal life. mck
