Sun 23rd Aug, 2009 in Local News
Dean Turner, bassist with Magic Dirt, has sadly passed away at the age of 37. He had been battling lung cancer for some time.
Magic Dirt had been booked to play two gigs in Victoria this weekend, but had canceled for “circumstance beyond the band’s control”. Their press release announcing the cancellation made no mention of Turner’s health.
In addition to his work with Magic Dirt, Turner also produced records for other Aussie acts includin redsunband, Bit By Bats, Gersey, Adalita (of Magic Dirt) and Violent Soho. He had also been acting as Violent Soho’s manager.
In an interview with FasterLouder back in 2005 Turner spoke fondly of his bands achievements: “If there’s anything that people should know about Magic Dirt is that we’re honest and we mean it”.
