Each year two million Muslims make their way to Mecca, whilst just close to three million Catholics pilgrimage to the holy city of Rome. And once a year in the small town of Meredith, two hours north-west of Melbourne, ten thousand music lovers converge on their spiritual home. Well it’s time to roll out the prayer mats and praise-be to Aunty music lovers of the south, because the 19th Meredith Music Festival line-up has arrived.

As suspected for some months now, those glorious masters of noise and Pitchfork 9.6ers Animal Collective, will be seeing that the Supernatural Ampitheatre is packed to the branches for their headline set at this year’s Meredith. Alongside the Baltimoreans, ensuring that all the horn-rimmed indie kids feel right at home, will be Brit-pop survivor Jarvis Cocker. The internationals continue to stack up for Meredith 2009 with folktronica master Patrick Wolf, electro-popsters Crocodiles and swing revivalists Kitty, Daisy and Lewis all set to grace the Nolan farm.

On the home front will be the Father of Aussie folk Paul Kelly (who is sure to be responsible for at least one magic Meredith sing-a-long), teacher’s pets Eddy Current Supression Ring and quirky pop sensation Sia.

This year there will only be one type of ticket available, that encompasses all three days of the festival and the gates to the Nolan farm will open half a day earlier on the Friday to compensate.

Aunty has also ensured us that there will be five extra hectares of camping room but that the capacity will remain the same. This will make the early arrival staking-out of Bush Camp all the easier.

A ballot for subscribers is underway now which will be followed by store sales on September 8th and online sales September 10th.
