On Saturday October 31, Melbourne’s Etihad Stadium will play host to Megarampage, the biggest BMX and skateboarding event to ever hit our shores, bringing with it a host of bands including the ageing (but still somewhat loveable) Soundwave ‘07 headliners The Offspring. Along for the ride are pop-punks Good Charlotte, with brothers Benji and Joel Madden also pumping out DJ sets throughout the day, American rapper Pitbull and the original Wu-Tang Clan (or at least what is left of them).
While touring locally in June, Ghostface Killah hinted at an impending visit by Wu-Tang and this latest announcement should instill fans with hope of an Australia-wide tour involving the whole clan, while The Offspring are expected to perform sideshows in Sydney and Brisbane.
The organisers have also enlisted the help of local acts including Melbourne psychedelic punks Shamon Son, Bondi based trio Cog and up-and-coming funk metallers Mammal, due to depart for a UK tour in September in support of impending release Vol. 2 Systematic/Automatic. The festival apparently ‘strikes fear into the hearts of the old’ and will feature live music, street art and showcase the talents of world-class skaters Jake Brown, Bob Burnquist and Danny Way, taking on an eight storey high skate ramp comparable in magnificence to the horse of troy.
Promising an afternoon of over-the-top entertainment everywhere you look, Megarampage looks a hyperactive kid’s dream.
