Sundae Workers Series at the Newtown Workers Club offers the perfect Sunday afternoon gig for the discerning punter.
Already the Series has hosted Kid Sam and Koko-Nuts! but there’s much more to be enjoyed over the next few weeks.
There’s a rare opportunity to see Qua’s – œGalactic jungle experience’ and the melody-filled synth passages, sheets of controlled guitar feedback and gravity-defying drum rolls of the amazing Mountains in the Sky.
With nods to early Roxy Music and T-Rex era Marc Bolan, Darren Sylvester joins the highly praised Rat vs Possum loved by FasterLouder’s reviewer for their – œhypnotic tribal rhythms, the floor toms all-a-glitter as the four band members pound away, and the lush layers that loop and grow as the melodies and hooks build into the jungle-jangle-pop.’
The Primitive Calculators, part of Melbourne’s post-punk explosion of the late 70s, play with The UV Repairs – a once only mash of two of Melbourne’s gnarlyest proto punks The UV Race and Repairs.
Plus there are DJ sets from the Brain Children (Mikey Squires of Eddy Current Suppression Ring and Max Crumbs from Agents of Abhorrence and Catcall) and Badlands spinning of all kinds of eavy soul.
