If you’re an unpublished songwriter who has what it takes to capture hearts and minds with your art, you should enter the WAM song of the year competition.
Winners will be able to take their career to the next level with the prizes on offer: $5,000 cash, a 3 day recording session supplied by Poons Head Recording Studio, a mastering session with James Hewgill Music, the pressing of 500 CDs by Diskbank, and the opportunity to sign a publishing deal with Shock Music Publishing – the most valuable prize ever offered in this competition which is now in its 20th year.
There are 10 genre categories as well as two school age categories and regional and indigenous categories as well. The winner of each category gets $500 and a day recording in a professional studio. This year sees the introduction of a new category Mentally Healthy aimed at encouraging songs that promote positive mental health messages.
You’ve got from now till August 14 to get your entry in and If you can’t write songs yourself, but know a good tune when you hear it, never fear; a Most Popular Song public vote will be held in September.
