Elvis Costello October tour

Prolific songman Elvis Costello is making his way back to Australia in October to celebrate new album Secret, Profane and Sugarcane. Active since the 1970s, Costello has turned out records – both on his own and together with other eminent musos – every couple of years. His latest is a rousing ode to Americana, produced with T Bone Burnett over three days in Nashville.

Costello has always been warmly welcomed in Australia, not least on his visit for the Sydney Festival in 2006. Further to his songwriting talents, Costello is a seasoned and convivial performer. With over 40 albums in the man’s back catalogue, his repertoire runs deep. Expect a high level of finesse at these shows.

Elvis Costello will bring his – œguitar, songs and stories’ to the following venues in October. Tickets on sale Tuesday 21 July.

Thu 8 Oct – Fremantle Arts Centre, Fremantle
Sat 10 Oct – Palais Theatre, Melbourne
Sun 11 Oct – Wrest Point Entertainment Centre, Hobart
Wed 14 Oct – Royal Theatre, Canberra
Thu 15 Oct – Enmore Theatre, Sydney
Sun 18 Oct – Convention Centre, Brisbane

Conflicted.

I like Elvis but don't really want to hear new crap.
What a fickle fan I am.

ooh, i've always wanted to get into his music - would anyone recommend a particular album for me to check out?

To be honest I think he peaked pretty early with his first two albums "My Aim Is True" and "This Year's Model".

Yeah his first two albums are phenomenal, but also his fourth (I think from memory) called Armed Forces is wicked. And the one he released before this latest one, last year, that he recorded with Jenny Lewis and her friends, called Momofuku. It's hard to go wrong (assuming to miss the 90s adult contemporary crap) with him though..he's had such an amazing output. The concert will be RIDICULOUS.

You would be wrong Stefan.

He has been doing quality stuff since then. Just don't expect him to repeat himself. Hi recent work includes jazz, opera, country and blues influences.

His best album is Brutal Youth (mid 90ish). I'm conflicted too. His output is so big, and so all over the place that a concert could be anything.

His shows are normally about the performance rather than specific songs.
He has so much in his back catalogue that he can never play them all.
Often it is about featuring a recent release and then exploring a bunch of the old stuff.

Oh,I'm not saying he didn't do good work later (I just bought Imperial Bedroom and I'm enjoying it a lot) just that the first two are totally awesome.

Fair call.
You know you will regret it if you don't go and see him.

I am still trying to find a pre sale for some decent tickets.
Anyone got any ideas?

Ticketek have a presale starting tomorrow.

If he plays Pump It Up, Welcome to the Working Week and/or Watching the Detectives, I'll be happy.
