The much-discussed and thoroughly sold-out Karnivool tour began in earnest on Saturday night at The Tivoli in Brisbane. It wasn’t their first Sound Awake stop, though.

To warm up for their national duties, the Perth heavy-hitters played a free hometown gig at Astor Theatre for the MySpace Secret Shows series. Our man-on-the-ground Stuo confirmed the band’s live show has lost none of its grunt. “The new material holds up very well and adds another dimension to the band,” he wrote, “but the older songs usually get the biggest crowd response, as was the case when C.O.T.E was played.”

Karnivool’s two-night stand at the Tivoli has set the tone for the remainder of their circuit, which culminates back in WA at the Metro. Fans have waited four long years for a new album tour, and it seems their patience is being rewarded. Stay tuned to FL for coverage from each stop of the Sound Awake tour.
