With the – œSave FBi’ gigs in full swing around town, FasterLouder is getting in on the action this Saturday night. We’re presenting some of our favourite local bands at Spectrum, including The Dolly Rocker Movement, Warhorse and Flying Foxes. As we gear up for our night of frivolity and fund-raising, we bailed up those dapper Flying Foxes for a quick Q&A.
What was the first song you ever taped off the radio?
While it may not have been my first incursion, I fondly remember taping a Smashing Pumpkins live in Chicago concert off the radio in 1995.
What songs by Sydney artists would you program on a radio show if you had one?
Adrian Deutsch, Bearhug, Bird Automatic, Bridezilla, Dappled Cities (Fly), Deep Sea Arcade, Des Miller & The Magnetic Heads (our drummer Christopher’s other band), The Dolly Rocker Movement (our drummer Christopher’s other other band), Fergus Brown, Ghoul, Jack Ladder, Kirin J. Callinan, Parades, Red Riders, See Kae, Tennis, Traps…oh, there’s more…would our show be 26 hours long?
Where were you when you first heard a song of yours played on FBi and what (truthfully) did you do?
I was in the FBi studios, doing an interview. I seem to remember that as our song radiated out across Sydney, I proceeded to make some completely inappropriate comments about politics, religion, other bands and then frantically checked that the microphone was off. I’m a coward like that.
Why should everyone come to the gig tonight?
There are three entirely convincing arguments:
1. As we are currently hanging upside down in a cave, carving the debut Flying Foxes album, this is your only chance to see us in all our flesh and bones glory (this ain’t no blog!).
2. Sydney’s sexiest psych rocker, Dandy Lyon (from The Dolly Rocker Movement) will be there. Last time I saw Dandy at The Essential Festival, he was wearing a dress. You have to come along to see what he wears next.
3. This will be the party of the year. Nothing beats the smug smilie faces of fundraiser well-wishers and great music. Everyone wins!
