It may have sold-out in record time, but that isn’t going to stop us getting excited about the second line-up announcement for Splendour In The Grass 2009. As previously reported on FL, those fine Mancunians Doves and UK buzz band Dananananaykroyd will be sloshing their way to Belongil Fields come July, as will Madchester survivors Happy Mondays.

Balancing out the barmy army will be a solid Aussie contingent, which includes Splendour alumni You Am I, festival favourites Architecture In Helsinki and the beguilingly beautiful Bridezilla.

Well I'm really happy with some more local talent. All of which I've seen previously so I know the quality of the shows they deliver.

yeah terrible lineup. and why would the happy mondays be exclusive to splendour? its already sold out, so why would anyone care if they played other shows around the country.

I'm not going this year, but Doves, You Am I and Downsyde have all delivered great Splendour performances in the past.

Downsyde were a surprise highlight for me a few years ago. I hadn't even heard any of their stuff at that point.

Well at least there was nobody outrageous added : Lady Gaga (I cannot believe this was even a rumour!)
All up another dissapointing festival lineup, so glad I kept my money in my wallet.
Lets hope BDO 2010 gets it right next year!!!

I disagree. It's good to see a good number of quality Australian bands on any lineup.

Australia seems to have too big a tendancy to love crap international acts over good Australian bands. I find it incredible how rubbish some of the UK indie rock bands that gain prominence out here are.

I'm not going this year, but I certainly think it's a pretty solid Splendour lineup.

I thought they were lots of fun. Vitriol was one of the biggest crowd moments of the festival in my opinion. There weren't many acts that had the crowd going nuts to a particular song more than that.

especially that early in the arvo too....

i like the line up, (well anything past the specials was a bonus for me) but and im happy that its got a good local supporting this year......and i hate little red so much

I had my fingers crossed for YYYs. Really crossed. And toes. Now I'm cross. Yes I'm a spoiled brat, and I do love my Aussie music, but YYYs would have more than topped it off.

Usually the second announcement has quite a big act in it. Not to undermine the bands announced, but it would have been good to have another big act. Greediness is my cardinal sin.

But in saying that I did pay >250 for a ticket. Time to spend our punter moolah on crazy awesome acts. Maybe then we can make a festival more like Glastonbury. What a dream. Put some effort in Splendour! I think they're getting slack in their comfy sold-out-festival-every-year position.

I'm guessing the bands that only play Splendour do so because they're too busy to do a larger tour (Bloc Party, MGMT).

Or in the case of The Happy Mondays, I'd assume it is because Secret Sounds doesn't think there is adequate demand for a national tour.

would have been nice if beaches or ECSR or somebody new from Australia got announced. heaps more bands going for the threepeat etc.
o well... Flaming lips + Manchester orchestra + the Top Pub on Friday afternoon will make it worth my time and money. That other band with a ridiculous name don't sound too bad either (definitely not the sonic youth, fuguzi comparisons but when do articles ever tell the truth)
