Politico-punks Rise Against have apparently attracted both slurs and commendations for the song Hero Of War from last year’s Appeal To Reason. Telling the story of an American soldier who signs up to serve in the Iraq War, it’s earnestly strummed and sung by frontman Tim McIlrath. As he says himself, “I was thinking there needs to be a song that documents this time in America’s history, so that people know about it, so it doesn’t happen again.”
