Longtime Newcastle buddies Silverchair have announced to fans that they have returned to the studio to work on new material. “Daniel, Ben & Chris recently got together in a remote studio for a bit over 3 weeks to work on some new songs,” the band writes on its website. “They put down a bunch of ideas & Daniel has since gone away to write and develop the songs further.” Despite this momentum, no album release date has been decided.

The trio has even put together a lo-fi video of their studio sabbatical. The clip sees them tinkering with giant drums and xylophones, getting back to nature and generally acting like a band in good spirits. While 2007’s – œcomeback’ album Young Modern left some cold, Silverchair enthusiasts will no doubt be keen to hear how this one turns out. Back to letting the door swing, or more Van Dyke Parks-ness?
