Fans of lauded Perth outfit The Sleepy Jackson shouldn’t expect new material any time soon. In an interview with UK tabloid The Sun, notoriously precocious frontman Luke Steele confirmed his focus is now on camp-pop side-project Empire Of The Sun. “I suddenly realised I had guys from Sleepy Jackson on a payroll every month and they weren’t really doing anything,” Steele told the paper. “I decided to move away from that for now.”

The man also gave some insight into what to expect from Empire Of The Sun’s first-ever live performance at the Parklife festival. “It’s more than just about the music, it’s a huge theatrical event,” he gushed. “Lots of colours, fireworks and beautiful costumes. I’ve been watching Kylie Minogue and U2’s tour DVDs for inspiration. It will be like a feature film with a narrartor between scenes.”

For other Luke Steele gems (surviving exhaustion with protein shakes, recruiting Gordon Ramsay), have a read of the full interview. Also, the video for new Empire Of The Sun single Standing On The Shore has surfaced. Filmed on “a sand dune a mile from [Steele’s] house in Perth”, the clip dispenses with Nick Littlemore in favour of – œswordfish girls’. Naturally.
