Soundwave 2009 stars Anberlin will be jetting back our way in August for a headline jaunt. Joining the Florida rock outfit at each show is The Academy Is – last here in 2008 warming the stage for Panic At The Disco.

Anberlin were raucously received on the Soundwave circuit this summer. FasterLouder’s Sydney reviewer had this to say: “Frontman Stephen Christian took the ball that the Sydney crowd had thrown to him and ran with it – an excitable higher-range ball of energy, fluttering around the stage and lapping up all potential crowd participation momentsÃ¢â‚¬Â¦Anberlin were a pleasure to watch.”

Anberlin will be back to rip it up in August, flanked by The Academy Is. Tickets on sale Friday 5 June.

I saw TAI... opening for PATD back last year. I like their first album, but they were fairly bland live.

Anberlin, conversely, are yet to release a bad record, and were excellent at Soundwave.
Count me in.

What? Cities was a horrible attempt at artistic expression in my opinion.* I can handle most of New Surrender but the filler tracks are just blergh.

*I had to wait for the first train home on Sunday morning and there just happened to be someone passed out with a left-handed acoustic on the train which I stole and started belting out an acoustic version of (fin)* and one guy came and started singing back-up vocals for me. That was fun.

You reckon Cities is their best eh? I think its horrendous. This is one of those matters of personal taste I reckon. I am a Blueprints or Friendship person myself.

I like those records too, but Cities was not only my proper introduction to the band, but the album where all my favourite songs of theirs lie (Godspeed, Unwinding, Clamour, Mathematics, Fin, Dismantle...I could go on).

MGMT are a guilty pleasure, I am happy to admit that they are not a talented nor particularly good band. They create fun, easy to listen to music.

Here's a quick lesson; never refer to the "production" of an album, no matter how good it is. Makes you sound like a complete and utter twat. You're better off saying "this album sounds good" or "this is how this band is supposed to sound". You might picture yourself as a journalist of sorts, but really, you're not close.
