With NOFX, Rancid and Green Day all releasing albums this month, you would be forgiven for thinking it was 1994 all over again. All three bands were at the forefront of second wave Californian punk in the early 90s, inspiring us to dye our hair green and write on our shirts.
Long before pop-punk was a dirty word and way before Short Stack fans were even conceived, second wave punk was being born in Southern California, preparing to inspire a generation caught somewhere between X and Y. The release of three new albums from such seminal So-Cal punks has inspired us to dig around in our record collections and get together the twelve most memorable Californian punk albums of the early 90’s.
Start reminiscing here and see if you agree.
NB: Special thanks to Brittles and Dexter Ramone for their well considered input and outright objections to the list.
