They might’ve been Young, Tight & Alright, but Melbourne two-piece Digger & The Pussycats have gotten a bit meaner with age. Their next album, Watch Yr Back, is a wilder, more raucous ride than their debut, and the band are certain that it’ll be a surprise for those who believe that garage-styled blues riffing is the extent of their musicality.
The disc – though it’s got a big pop streak – also features harder-edged moments, like the crowd favourite Coming To Get You … though you might know it as Drive Like A Cunt. Melburnian scenesters also get a serve in the sly Fashion Victim. Aggressive? Maybe. But with the amount of energy these two put out on stage, can you really be surprised? And of course, they’re planning on christening their shiny new disc with a whole series of launch gigs, so you can witness the stoush up close and personal.
The boys successfully played gigs through Europe in 2004, and are set to return to that part of the world in May this year. They’ll be aiming to entertain their growing legion of fans, as well as promoting some exclusive European releases. It’d be a good idea to catch the duo before they head back to those countries of old – you never know: they might just stay there, if the reception’s good enough!
