Splendour In The Grass soldout!

In a little over an hour all tickets for the 2009 Splendour In The Grass sold out this morning. Having gone onsale at 9am, Thursday May 14th, the Byron Bay event well and truly maintained its reputation as one of the year’s most anticipated music festivals, with punters snapping up all weekend and camping tickets in the blink of an eye.

It’s the second year that Splendour In The Grass have utilised ticketing agent Qjump as their sole outlet for sales, and in 2009 the process for purchasing went off without a hitch for the thousands of eager punters queued online. Tickets sold out in just 1 hour and 17 minutes; an all time record for the festival.

Splendour In The Grass hits Belongil Fields in Byron Bay on Saturday July 26th and Sunday July 27th, with 2009 headliners and international guest including Bloc Party, MGMT, The Flaming Lips, Janes Addiction and Friendly Fires, as well as local favourites like the Hilltop Hoods and Midnight Juggernauts.

Why? It worked out perfectly cromulent. All tickets are sold out which means qjump performed exactly as it needed to, and in record time too

I had no problems at all with Qjump today?? If you didn't get tickets it was just because you were unlucky, not because qjump cocked up... (Unlike last year)

Love the High and Mighty "Just unlucky" comments. How bout just selling all the tickets to everyone at the same time and not letting people who've been before buy them 3 days before everyone else. With a lineup like that already how could they not expect 18000 odd tickets to go in an hour.

So acknowledging the fact that people made an effort to support and continue to support the festival for many years by allocating them a couple of tickets to pick up over a weekend if they wish is a bad thing too?

I would have thought this process shows the festival organisers care about the regulars who have created Splendour's vibe over the years while helping to reduce the online crush on general public sale day.

Surely this is also the thinking behind the Falls ballot for those who have attended previously?

I agree it would be interesting to know how many Splendour Members are out there though... I'd especially like to meet others who haven't missed one yet.

I've missed one but due to the fact I was close to death.

I'd love to be a Splendour member but I am too lazy to get all the stuff they want together, same reason I've never received Centrelink.

Yeah maybe.... The whole process just didn't make sense to me. The whole point of online ticket purchasing being created in the first place is so that people don't have to line up or get on the phone to purchase tickets (and it saves companies money too). But, QJump works on the premise that users are picked at random, meaning somebody could have gone on at 9:50am, and purchased tickets ahead of people who'd been on there for the last hour. Granted luck plays a part but fairness has to feature somewhere. If you get on at 9am and still miss out on a line based system... Fair enough, thats just bad luck. Plus, Im trying to go for the first time, and I'm penalised because I've never been before. Whereas if they'd released a small amount of pre-sale tickets that required you to signup to the splendour website, then again, based on a first in best dressed system... if you don't get tickets its bad luck.

Understand your point QueenNahs, and I agree with you to a certain level. I was one of those lucky people who was offered 'VIP' tickets for 'The Great Escape' festival (R.I.P) because I'd been previous years. However there was a limited number of tickets (1000 to my knowledge) and it was it, first in, lucky ticket holders. That festival would have had similar numbers if not more. Granted I doubt it would have sold out but it still rewarded the faithful without penalising anyone new. However, we'd really need to see the pre-sale numbers to see how much of an impact it did actually have.

Is this true? I agree that's unfair...

I know there were issues with caching in the last couple of years (where people needed to clear their cache in order to get back into the queue properly rather than get stuck in the loop from hell)... it appears at least this was fixed...

I'm seeking confirmation but initial reports were that QJump stated this year it would be random selection (maybe because of that Caching issue your were referring too). Either way, there are rants all over the web regarding it (which is to be expected). But one guy, didn't get any, and a workmate of his came into work half an hr after he did, managed to get on, and because Qjump works on a time limit and not user logon, logged on for him, and 2 sets of mates and managed to grab 12 tickets in his allocated 10 minutes. With a system like that people don't stand a chance. Go back to the ticketek days with a system that can handle the volume of punters they were getting. Good luck to all those who got tickets... I'm envious, partly because I reckon Kasabian will be on the 2nd announcment and they're insane. But I'm sure you'll have an absolute blast... Now... Bring on the Sideshows

I am over the moon.....shakin in my boots... i got tickets today.... I will be making the trip from a little south western town of Western Australia.....it was a long stressfull wait trying to get on Qjump but got my tixs just before 8.00 am Western Australia time...so so so excited...pow shicka pow pow.....

Man i hate qjump atm... was fuckin trying to get on there from 8:45 til 10:15 and never even got past that damned currently at capacity page! Grrr... Added to the fact i fractured my knee last saturday this helps in making one quite annoyed.

the splendour member thing really shties me off on the basis that it is so bluddy hard to get tickets, and this is probably the 4th or 5th year i've tried and the 1st time i've been lucky enough (and i wasnt trying to get them, i let my friends have a go this time). the past 2 years i was on the computer for a good 6 hours trying to get through. i feel that if we go back to the days of selling tickets at outlets, it will be alot easier. that way we're not a slave to techology.yes, people work and all that jazz, but sell them on a saturday, or something. there just has to be a better way than qjump. i've never been a fan of their system. ticketek however i find is excellent. or i'm just really lucky when im buying tickets there. ok, extremely jumpy ramble over
