Last call for Next Big Thing
Tue 5th May, 2009 in Local News
If you’re an unsigned, original WA band, and you think you could be The Next Big Thing, time is running short to enter the competition. Entries close on 13th May.
Last year’s Winners Project Mayhem, and runners up The Typhoons and Boys Boys Boys! continue to impress. Triple J will be playing bits from the 2008 compilation on Home and Hosed this week, and past winners John Butler, Snowman, Fourth Floor Collapse, Streetlight and Harlequin League are all still finding success wherever they are across the globe.
The Next Big Thing is open to any artist residing in WA, performing in any genre. With a total prize pool of over $70,000, the state winner receives an entire musician’s starter kit including recording time with a producer, 500 copies of their own CD, video clip production, CD distribution, photography, street press advertising, rehearsal room hire, equipment insurance plus guaranteed performances at the WAMis, In The Pines and the Big Day Out.
Judging is undertaken by a rotating pool of industry specialists, which in turn provides excellent exposure for the competing artists at all levels of the industry from punters to professionals.
Entry is simple and unlike some othe band comps we might mention, doesn’t cost hundreds of dollars or require you to log in and vote every hour. All you have to do is send them 2 original songs, a bio and photo and $30. All the details are here
