Brisbane's music photographerstake the spotlight atUnderExposed

Wandering into the Joshua Levi Galleries, the visual feast that greets initiates a smiling gasp. This is the stuff wallpaper dreams are made of. Photographs large and small of some of this city’s, this country’s and the world’s top musicians in the midst of live performance form a mosaic that stretches along every wall. Truly an inspiration, this is the art of the unsung photographic rockumentarian. That’s right Brisbane, UnderExposed is officially open, and it’s one of the most important and exciting exhibitions this city has seen.

Kicking off with a VIP soiree on Thursday night, Brisbane’s musical community gathered to enjoy a sneak peak at the pictures, some drinks, a lovely acoustic set from Black Market Rhythm Co’s Chris Ernst and an intimate lo-fi performance from the beloved Drawn From Bees. From the comments and discussion heard throughout the gallery, it was clear all were very impressed. The calibre of Brisbane’s performance photographers’ work is exceptional and this exhibition is a testament to their dedication, talent and tenacity in an industry that rarely delivers just rewards.

Officially opening to the general punter public on Friday night, neither the fight with football fans over traffic supremacy around the Gabba nor the early evening rain storm could keep those with tickets for the first of the live music nights away. Featuring Black Market Rhythm Co, Drawn From Bees, Mikki Ross, Tim Lloydell & the Deckchairs, The Ride, Fushia, Casey Fogg and Suborbital Spaceflight, some of the yummiest freshly-barbequed gourmet burger offerings around from Purple Gorilla and a smoothly functioning bar, this first night has anticipation for the upcoming series of gig nights riding high on the excitement scale. What an awesome four weeks this is going to be.
