Tomas Ford gets a bashing
Tue 7th Apr, 2009 in Local News
It’s rare that you’ll hear him admit it, (except that he has written it in a press release and sent it to all the media in Perth,) but local electro punk Tomás Ford’s shows sometimes get a bit intense even for him.
But then, he likes it intense. He’s rather a mild mannered fellow outside of his makeup, but give him sequins, flouro anything and some greasepaint, and he’ll hump your leg, shout obscenities at you, or force you to lick his armpit. And you will love it despite yourself. You will spend the gig pressing yourself back against the crowd behind you, terrified that he’s going to notice you and single you out for some depraved act, and you will be relieved, and secretly disappointed, if he doesn’t -then you will find out where he’s performing next because you were so worried about yourself that you missed the show.
“It’s always fun in the moment, but afterwards I’ll replay one horrible thing I’ve done in my head on a loop and get all emo about it. Though I’m usually glad nobody’s pressed charges.” That’s what all the boys say, sweetie.
So he has a new EP coming out called Bash Myself and a disturbing, beguiling clip to go with it
Tomás Ford – Bash Myself from Tomás Ford on Vimeo.
Also on the EP are four other tracks; Get Used To It (featuring MC Able), a rework of nu-rave anthem Loudspeeka (Voltaire Twins), a creepy dubstep recasting of Letters Of Complaint (Turbine 37) and the Bash My House mix (6000 Red.)
The EP and Video launch party is on Friday, April 24 at Rocket Room. Somehow he has managed to find space in the place for two stages and he has lined up thirteen bands to join him for six hour – œuber-party of local electro, punk, intriguing leftfield experiments and hip hop’.
The whole lineup looks like this:
