It’s become a bit of a tradition for highly anticipated festivals to have their lineup “leaked” before the big announcement, but usually the pranksters behind a shonky press release will put some thought into making their hoax believable by choosing acts that have some likelihood of actually touring.

This is certainly not the case for a fake Splendour In The Grass lineup doing the rounds at the moment. Topping the hoax lineup, a “very special reunion” of iconic indie band The Smiths, as well as My Bloody Valentine, Dinosaur Jnr, Aphex Twin, Klaxons, Animal Collective, Postal Service and even Canadian post-rockers Godspeed You! Black Emperor, who haven’t played live in five years.

The game is given away, however, in the press release’s rather absurd closing line; ” Van She will be playing a rare live show.” Tongue very clearly planted in cheek it would seem! Maybe they thought saving a Microsoft Word document as a pdf file would give their handiwork instant credibility? Stay tuned for the full (real!) Splendour lineup coming later this month.
