Oasis will tour here in 2009

Thanks to the sleuthing of an FL member, we now know that Oasis have committed to visiting us on their current world circuit. The band famous for its brawling, badmouthing and occasional music-making has already been announced on the second line-up for Japan’s Fuji Rock Festival in July.

An interview with Noel Gallagher on Oasis fan-site StopCryingYourHeartOut.com has also revealed their plans for Australia. When asked what stops are still to come on their tour, brother Noel confirmed: “We’re definitely playing in Australia and Russia.”

We haven’t seen Oasis in these parts since their sell-out run of dates in 2005. Last year, they set aside the in-fighting to release Dig Out Your Soul; certainly one of the better post (What’s the Story) Morning Glory? efforts. As long as stage invaders are kept in check, we should be in for some rollicking, nostalgia-tinted shows.

Cheers to Lewie for the tip-off!

you obviously weren't there in 95 when Morning Glory came out, when all that was on the radio was Boyz II Men, Marky Mark & The Funky Bunch and East 17... hearing those first strains of Champagne Supernova is fkin electrifying

Oasis put rock music back on centre stage and there are a sh*tload of bands around today that only got where they are coz of the path that Oasis cut for them

If this is all you remember as being on the radio when Morning Glory came out it's no wonder you think it's the greatest album ever. Oasis were the commercial pop act your little sister liked and were one of the least rock things around. What was BDO '95? Ministry, Primal Scream, Magic Dirt, Silverchair..

Not saying they didn't have good pop songs and weren't iconic, but lets not misrepresent the situation. They might have blown the mind of someone who only ever watched Video Hits.. But every one else of formative age was either watching Recovery on the other channel or still asleep after being at some party that had Rage on the tv the night before.
It's also quite amusing to think Oasis cut a path for anyone considering how highly derivative they are.
In short.. good band, fit the times, deserves their place in history, but lay off the crack pipe.

I might add, Oasis came up in a large American forum about 6 months ago and it turned into a handful of Aussies and Poms explaining to the yanks who they even were. I don't for a second believe that in anyway affects the quality of the music involved, but it should give you a taste of how parochial the idea that they were the greatest thing ever was.
