This week it was hip-hop that ruled supreme in the Capital with the sell out Downsyde & Drapht show at ANU and the packed out Transit Bar for Muph & Plutonic on Saturday night. As always your FasterLouder crew was out and about armed with cameras and notepads, tracking down the best in live music and shenanigans in Canberra.

Thursday night saw the masses head to ANU Bar for the Downsyde & Drapht show with Pez along for the ride. From all account it was a sell out with the line well out the door and across campus, with people busting to get in before the show started. Check out our review for all the details!

Saturday night as expected you needed to get to Transit Bar early to avoid the lines. That being said once you got in there, there was no avoiding the throngs of hot and sweaty bodies there to catch Muph & Plutonic once again. The hip-hoppers didn’t disappoint, check out all the action here.

Just down the road it was a much calmer scene at the Canberra Theatre Playhouse for the mesmerising and delightful CW Stoneking and Miss Mamie Minch. For two hours or so the crowd were transported back to New Orleans in the 20’s and what a wonderful plac it was. Check out the pics and review.

This week sees the lovely Darren Hanlon kicking off his nationwide tour in style at Tilley’s on Tuesday night.

It’s also that time of the month to catch Sydney indie club night Purple Sneakers at Transit Bar. Recently mastermind behind Purple Sneakers has said, “You know what, I f*#king love Canberra! I know most people from Canberra don’t actually agree with me but seriously I have had more fun partying in Canberra than I have had in Sydney”. Be there Friday night!

My tip for the week is to head to Bar 32 on Saturday night for Shakeup, a little twist on the usual Shakedown indie club night, catch bands Escape Syndrome, Spoil and Point of View playing from 8 pm with the Shakedown DJ’s taking over and ripping the place up as usual from around 11pm. As always entry is a GFC friendly $5.

For something a little darker, head to ANU Bar on Saturday night for Brigitte Handley & The Dark Shadows, last time Brigitte and co. played at ANU they absolutely rocked ANU Bar.

In other Canberra music news, this Wednesday Friction & Lexington Music will let us know who will be rocking our socks this winter at the Warehouse Winter Music Festival at AIS Arena. Last year was a cracker, let’s just hope the kids of Canberra have moved on from fluro attire this year. Stay tuned to FasterLouder for our verdict on the announcement on Wednesday.
