Wolfmother’s last man standing Andrew Stockdale last week responded to claims that the band’s break-up was “a hostile takeover”. Speaking with The Advertiser, Stockdale was quick to deny he drove Chris Ross and Myles Heskett out.
“That’s total manufactured journalistic sensationalism,” the frontman told the newspaper. “No way was it a hostile takeover.” Stockdale outlines that it was old-fashioned – œcreative differences’ that made it impossible for Wolfmother to continue. The difficulties came about after a month in the studio, and with “eight or so songs” in the bag.
“We were already in a difficult situation with a follow-up record to a really successful album,” he continued. “We should just pool all of our ideas and just go for it. But for Chris that wasn’t enough or what he was looking for. He wanted to pursue his own artistic vision and that’s cool and I respect his choice.”
The statement was not complete, though, without a mystical analogy. “There’s a mountain over there and we’re gonna need some rope,” Stockdale offered. “I’ll use some of yours, you use some of mine – who cares, but we don’t want to freeze to death on the slopes. It turns out everyone wanted to use different types of rope and that mountain was too big. Two people then walked to another mountain.”
