We’ve just walked back in the office from the 2008 Australian Music Prize announcement, full of chorizo and happy to report Eddy Current Suppression Ring have taken it home.
The Melbourne cult heroes scored a massive $30,000 cash prize, which they’re intending to spend on a warehouse studio space. The shortlist for the AMP also included The Presets, Jack Ladder, Beaches, The Drones, Cut Copy, C.W. Stoneking, Ross McLennan and Tom Cooney. Sydney troubadour Jack Ladder claimed the Red Bull Award In Recognition Of Outstanding Potential, landing himself a tidy $15,000. Check out our interview with the dapper gent.
Highlights of the award ceremony included a certain FasterLouder Managing Editor welling up at Eddy Current’s win, plus some inspired heckling from – Ĺ“adult contemporary’ star Renee Geyer (!?). Rob and Mikey from Eddy Current accepted the honour in typically unaffected fashion, with much excitement about the oversized cheque. Well done lads!
to listen to their music now on
