The Flaming Lips tour

The last time they graced our shores with their fearless presence there was animal suits, fake blood and a man-sized plastic bubble. It has taken us five years to recover, but at long last The Flaming Lips are returning to Australia.

There is no easy way to describe a live show from Oklahoma’s psych-rock Gods, whose lead-singer Wayne Coyne mesmerises his audiences with a performance akin to an acid-fuelled, dancing Jesus. Their visceral live performances even led Q Music to declare The Flaming Lips one of their – œ50 Bands To See Before You Die’.

Since their last trip to our shores the band have released 2006’s resplendent At War With The Mystics and THE stoner movie of 2008, Christmas On Mars – a film which not only stared the band and their friends but which was written and directed entirely by Coyne. With a new album scheduled for release in June these Flaming Lips shows are simply not to be missed.

FasterLouder is tingling with excitement to present THE FLAMING LIPS :

Best tour news I've heard in some time. Surely now the top rumour for Splendour? But don't they normally announce such things in conjunction with the first lineup......?

Not the times I have gone. The Kooks, Interpol, Smashing Pumpkins they were all less than that.

Smashing Pumpkins were from ebay thats why they were $60. But Kooks were around $65 as are The Fray and Rise Against. Lilly Allen and the rest are around the steep $70 mark.

They are obviously playing Splendour hence the hefty price tag. I like The Flaming Lips and I am glad I have seen them on previous occasions which will prevent me from paying sucker prices. If you have never seen them before, then it would be worth it.

i saw them at v-fest baltimore in 2006 and they were amazing, a bunch of my friends got to be dancers and were dressed up in alien costumes.... then wayne coyne got inside a plastic ball. it was great! :)

I think $86 for Flaming Lips is reasonable. You would not leave their show disappointed.

I would pay $180 to see the Flaming Lips

OK, just read this ...

I paid $80-90 for Sigur Ros and Bloc Party. Thought this price was pretty standard for bands of this calibre.

Kooks aren't anywhere near as big. I paid $60 for MGMT, and M83, also much smaller bands (for MGMT, in terms of albums, for M83, in terms of popularity). Ebay prices don't count.

See, in my dream, AC support the Flips, play Splendour and do their own shows in small venues that sell out very quickly.

I got to see them at Glastonbury and it was AH-MAZ-ING... was anyone else there? I'm from Brisbane and therefore can't decide whether to travel to Sydney or Melbourne. Or risk it and don't by tickets and wait for Splendour (which they haven't been announced for yet...)

I had the tickets lined up on the site at 9:01am this morning but I couldn't bring myself to push "buy".. Not on a Tuesday or Wednesday. Seriously, mid week interstate (or close to it) shows have a high inconvenience factor. Price isn't really that much of an object to see them, I'd happily add the $500 for flights and accommodation etc for a Friday or Saturday show that week. I guess it would be different if I wasn't already going to see them at Splendour a couple of days before.... but even so i'd do it two weekends in a row..
