Sound Relief playing times

The star-powered Sound Relief benefit concerts are happening this Saturday in Sydney and Melbourne, and now the timetables have been released. Of course you won’t need to be rushing madly around the site, as all acts play on the one massive stage.

Sydneysiders will have to make sure not to sleep in, with Coldplay the first band of the day at 12:15pm. From 8pm in Melbourne is an Australian rock dream run: Hunters & Collectors, Split Enz and Midnight Oil all in a row. These are sure to be amazing – if not exactly intimate – events. 100% of profits from the event will be donated to the Red Cross Victorian Bushfire Appeal and The Premier’s Disaster Relief Appeal in Queensland.

prediction!!! alot of people are goin to want to see coldplay in sydney, i dont think a 11am gate opening is goin to be enough time for people to get in n see them by the time 12:15 approaches, dont u think

Yeah that was part of the reason I didn't buy tickets. It was like that at Wave Aid....get's pretty boring.

I love my music too and am aware of the stop/start nature of the days programming but have you heard of just going along with friends and having a good day out FOR A GOOD CAUSE !!

We get the point that it's a fundraising exercise for a very worthy cause.

Personally, I donated $200 to the bushfire appeal.

I don't get why I can't make a comment that due to short set times the amount of time you'll spend watching roadies will be ridiculous. I am still glad I'm not going.

Well I just learnt a very important lesson today, one can't have a good time for a good cause at home. I have received word that the Red Cross won't be taking donations from people unless they are at the arena, so MusicMad must be well connected in spreading his word.

I'd be surprised if they didn't have the numbers on a rolling ticker at the bottom of the screen tomorrow. Couldn't be any worse then [V]'s coverage of Live Earth where the hosts were asking what callers were doing to save power, only for the callers to say they have the coverage on the big screen with the aircon blasting...

and i am not hating on non-attendees, it is their prereogative not to go. however, i havent heard any legitimate reasons in this thread for not wanting to go.

Where did you read that? I've only seen starting times for sets, and assuming that they can do changeovers in a super-speedy 15 minutes you'll still have acts playing short sets.

Looking at Melbourne's start of the day:

12:10pm Jet
12:55pm Gabriella Cilmi
1:40pm Kings Of Leon
2:20pm Paul Kelly

So assuming that there'd be a 15 minute changeover between acts and not anything longer...

12:10pm - 12:40pm (30 minutes): Jet
12:55pm - 1:25pm (30 minutes): Garbiella Cilmi
1:40pm - 2:05pm (25 minutes): Kings Of Leon

they're supposedly playing footage from the sydney/melbourne (depending on which one you're not at) gig between sets while roadies set up, so it's not all bad

plus rumor is kylie and john farnham will show up in some form. could be worth it

Guess this press release didn't make it to FL - BDO, Livid, etc have never sold this many tickets for one event, and Kylie was confirmed a while ago for Melbourne:

Sound Relief in Melbourne has smashed box office records becoming the largest paid concert event in Australian history.

With over 78,000 tickets sold the MCG event is now completely sold out.

“It’s just an amazing result,” Sound Relief co-organiser Michael Gudinski said. “The lineup is without doubt a once in a lifetime one, but it’s truly impressive how much the Australian public has gotten behind this. It speaks volumes of the passion of our great country – helping a mate in trouble.’

Australia’s leading pop princess has also confirmed that she will take time out from her hectic work schedule, flying in to Melbourne on the day of Sound Relief to appear as a special guest MC.

“To me, Kylie is Melbourne. Her attendance is the cherry on the top of an already phenomenal lineup. She’s our girl.” Michael Gudinski said.

In Sydney impressive ticket sales have led to new sections being opened to meet demand, with an additional release just added. A final addition to the Sydney lineup is expected to be announced any day now with organisers dropping hints that a few surprises can be expected on the day.

“This is the type of event that you’ll be telling your grandchildren about many years from now,” co-organiser Michael Chugg said. “New tickets are on sale for Sydney so people should get in quick to make sure they’re part of this historical event.”

100% of the profits from the Melbourne concert will be donated to the Red Cross Victorian Bushfire Appeal.

For the Sydney concert 50% of the profits will be donated to the Red Cross Victorian Bushfire Appeal and 50% will be donated to The Premier's Disaster Relief Fund Appeal in QLD to aid the victims of the Queensland floods.

The Sound Relief concerts are this Saturday (March 14). Tickets for Sydney can be purchased from Ticketek 132 849 or www.ticketek.com.au

me too. i entered a competition on Music Max once and bagged him as my answer to whatever their question was and obviously the person judging it got a laugh cos i won two gold tickets to A Day On The Green with free meals, drinks etc. it was pretty cool.

Yes. Chris Martin ran straight through the middle of the scg with thousands of people chasing after him. He then ran and stood on the centre barricade before someone pulled his leg and he fell to the ground. After that he went around the side of the ground behind a massive black fence. Me and about 10 other people jumped it, and Chris was hugging and high fiving us for about ten seconds before we were tackled by security. I didn't get to see what happened after that.

I think the security guards weren't aware he was going to do it, so they ended up being ultra pissed off. Even though I am anything but a fan of coldplay's music, it was an awesome 30 seconds :P
