Honey I Shrunk The Kids backyard mini festival is back for the third instalment this Sunday 15 March. The mini-festival kicks off in the backyard at the corner of Macarthur Avenue and Wattle Street, O’Connor at 1 pm and goes – œtill 7 pm. This is an underground event not to miss! Melbourne’s Popolice will be headlining the day with ample support from fresh Canberra talent.

Popolice (Melb)
Voss
Cat Cat
Archaeopteryx
JW Sparrow & The Miner Birds
Girl Sized Hands (Totally new!)
plus DJs to keep the vibe alive between bands.

There’s no official cover charge for the event but donations are welcome towards covering travel expenses for Melbourne’s Popolice.

Described by Cut Copy as a ‘one man my bloody valentine’ and ‘a bit of an underground favourite in Melbourne’, Popolice makes oceans of harmony and fuzzy noise you can break your heart to. Originally from NZ, his sound could be described as ‘very flying nun’ mixed in with influences from lo-fi indie staples such as Sonic Youth, Pavement and Yo La Tengo. Make sure you ask Marc about getting hold of his Forceback and Middle Ground EP’s because they are both freaking awesome!

Joining Popolice will be Canberra’s Voss who in the short time they have been together have quickly been gaining momentum as one of (if not the) hottest live acts in town. But the story of achievement, challenges met, competitors bested and obstacles overcome has to be cut short prematurely as one of their key members is leaving the country. This will be their last gig so make sure you don’t miss it!

Cat Cat make minimalistic but catchy droned out rock and deserve some kind of coolest new band for 2009 award says Warwick. Featuring Jonny Telafone (as in THE Jonny Telafone), guitar virtuoso and man of intrigue Sam and some other dude, Archaeopteryx attempt the impossible and make Prog and Punk make beautiful love together and somehow pull it off.

Just in case the fizzy lifting drink is wearing off JW Sparrow & The Miner Birds (solo project of the original Birds Love Fighting mastermind Warwick JW Smith) will make sure you don’t come down from the clouds of guitar noise bliss.

Also on the lineup are new kids on the block Girl Sized Hands which is the brainchild of Super Best Friends’ drummer Adam. Expect the unexpected!
