It’s was the tour announcement that sparked many months of grumbling and cheering, and now Kings Of Leon have finally arrived on our shores. The Nashville lads opened their tour with a concert-length set at Perth’s Rock-It Festival on Sunday. Despite strong co-headliners The Fratellis and The Music, KOL’s inclusion on the bill ensured a sell-out.
So, does the live show now befit their status as stadium superstars? Sadly for Only By The Night detractors, this tour’s set-list isn’t going to dwell in the past. The band played a good chunk of the new record – with Sex On Fire and Use Somebody the obvious – œskip-these-at-risk-of-death’ inclusions.
The good news for everyone is that the whole band was reportedly tight, Caleb’s voice strong and the sing-alongs plentiful. As ever, the stage presence was a little on the impersonal side – but it’s Kings Of Leon, after all. In the words of our Perth reviewer, expect “a Ferrari-like sheen” onstage.
With Perth the only festival date on the Followill’s schedule, it’s mega-arenas for the rest of the country. The unconfirmed Rock-It set-list is below – gleaned from fans at setlist.com. If it’s wrong, let us know in the Comments.
