Batten down the hatches: Texan masters of noise Ã¢â‚¬Â¦And You Will Know Us By The Trail Of Dead are heading back our way. The band has just reminded us of its tempestuous fervour with sixth album The Century Of Self, out now on Justice Records. Past experience tells us the live show will be just as visceral.

Trail Of Dead are currently in the midst of an extensive tour, blazing through the US and Europe en route to Australia. With that many shows, you can expect a well-oiled unit to greet us onstage in May.

Ã¢â‚¬Â¦And You Will Know Us By The Trail Of Dead play these East Coast shows.

Fri 29 May – The Forum, Sydney

I've got to go to an engagement party from about 7pm until 8pm. I imagine I'll get to a pub somewhere around the Entertainment Quarter by about 9pm. I'm meeting two mates there so it will probably depend where they are.

Have you got any plans yet? Definitely keen to meet up for a drink at some point during the night.

I concur with this. I enjoyed myself but the wowzer factor was severely lacking tonight. Now I think about it though, the crowd was eerily still which I really think was a contributing factor to the overall atmosphere and vibe of the evening.

Thinking about it, individually some (many?) of the songs were really strong. It's just there wasn't a real sense of flow or evolution to the set and that made it difficult to stay in the moment as it were. Or maybe I'm just a picky cunt.

Soho were great as per usual. What a way to end a set too! I think you are right about the flow of the whole thing.

The set was fucking killer, but I felt really let down by the encore. If they'd just added Insatiable Two to the end of the encore, I reckon I wouldve been a lot happier.

I think it needed more Fields of Coal and Worlds Apart. I am rather dirty about those two. However I did manage to pick up some washing tips from the merch guy which is always a bonus. For me, Will You Smile Again was the strongest point of the set.

at one stage during the last song, someone in the front row threw a sneaker at conrad, but he had his back turned and it hit him in the back, the drummer (headband dude) got all shitty, and was flipping the bird at the person, and then their roadie came out and grabbed the shoe off the stage and walked to frontofstage and basically looked like he was going to punch the punters face, but then he walked away.

It's a bit of a chicken and the egg thing, but yeah crowd response can really energise a band and push a performance. OTOH, it's not /always/ necessary ... earlier this year Mogwai put in a mind-blowing performance to a relatively still crowd. I walked out of that gig on cloud nine. (The Tiv's sound is better though, and that may also have been part of the "problem" last night ... fuzziness. I dunno, I feel like I'm picking nits here.).

The shoe thing was bizzare. What was that shit all about? Is it the new bra throwing?

Show was good, and as I expected...I really dug and got into the stuff from ST&C, WA & Madonna.

The shoe thing was weird. The dude threw a shoe (that seemed to be full of beer) in the headband drummers direction first, then at conrad who didn't seem to care really.

But Holy Shit. apparently Conrad broke the fucking headstock off his guitar near the beginning! I just thought he broke every string on the guitar, but found out from someone who was closer to the stage that the headstock broke off. Insane!

I thought the sound was so so shit too. That was my major beef. I guess it's hard for a band like that at a venue like that. The Tiv would have been special I think.

They played virtually the same set at the forum. Not sure what went on at Brissy but they rallied for an awesome performance in Sydney. Definitely not the gig of the year but top 5 at least. It's been too long since I saw them last and to finally hear Smile Again For Me live, it was the highlight of the night. Crowd seemed to be into it as well.

No instrument breakage in Sydney unfortunately, but they played a pretty brutal set. Missed a bunch of stuff I'd have liked to have heard but thems the breaks. The source tags stuff was sped up and had a lot more balls about it too.

I enjoyed it. It was a punk show for indie nerds and hipsters, so the dynamic of the audience was interesting.

I went to both Melbourne shows. On Saturday night, I thought they were pretty damn awesome, but could've done a little better. The 2nd show was much more intense, kudos for playing four different songs and they were interacting with the crowd a lot more. Conrad gave me vodka :D
