The Presets announce theirbiggest tour yet

It’s certainly been a momentous 18 months for The Presets, solidifying their position as a musical force to be reckoned with following the release of their critically and commercially acclaimed sophomore album. Apocalypso topped several – œalbum of 2008’ lists and also scored them a swag of ARIA awards.

Fresh from rocking the mainstage at Good Vibrations last month, before Kim and Julian take a well earned rest from the spotlight and lock themselves away to begin work on album number three they’re heading out on one last tour. True to form, it’ll be their biggest ever headline jaunt around the country, playing arena-sized shows in all capital cities and major regional centers.

Many of the shows are all ages, and tickets are set to go onsale Wednesday March 18th. Supports include Architecture In Helsinki, Van She and Wolf & Cub, so stay tuned for details on specific lineups for each show in the coming weeks.

The Presets tour dates:

Wednesday May 6th – The Mangrove, Broome, WA (18+)
Friday May 8th – Breakers CafÃƒÂ©, Geraldton, WA (18+)
Sunday May 10th – Belvoir Ampitheatre, Perth, WA (18+)
Saturday May 16th – Thebarton Theatre, Adelaide, SA (All Ages)
Thursday May 21st – Festival Hall, Melbourne, VIC (All Ages)
Saturday May 23rd – Derwent Centre, Hobart, TAS (All Ages)
Sunday May 24th – Albert Hall, Launceston, TAS (All Ages)
Wednesday May 27th – ANU, Canberra, ACT (All Ages)
Thursday May 28th – WIN Entertainment Centre, Wollongong, NSW (All Ages)
Friday May 29th – Panthers, Newcastle, NSW (All Ages)
Saturday May 30th – Hordern Pavilion, Sydney, NSW (All Ages)
Sunday June 7 – Riverstage, Brisbane, QLD (All Ages)

i wouldn't say sell out, they're just more universally appreciated. But thats what commercialism does. My people must have been used in every ad and is still being played at clubs and on commercial stations.

They deserve all the success they get, but it doesn't change the fact the crowd they attract now is a totally different one to 3 years ago.

I might travel to a different show, but don't know if a Hordern show would do anything for me.

To be honest, whilst it's not my thing, their album isn't bad, but it's a shame they're one of the most boring, generic, and pretentious live acts I've ever seen. As bad as Faker.

Hmm, I enjoy the pomp they put into a live show. Not every band can be entertaining. Van She are cunts and I like them for it.

Selling out for a band refers to sacrificing artistic integrity in order to achieve greater level of financial\commercial success.

Considering the Presets have not changed their sound or image in order to achieve their success, I think its safe to say they haven't sacrificed any of their artistic integrity. Just because their music now appeals to teenie boppers and fluoro-wearing scenester kids, doesn't necessarily mean their sell outs.

Van She, on the other hand, suck balls. They were actually responsible for my flight to Splendour being delayed 20mins.. true story. They rocked up well after everyone was already seated on the plane.

Doubt I will go to this show though.... had enough of their live show for a while. They played everywhere in 2008.

The Presets know how to put on a show, but I can't help but feel larger shows make them miserable.

Van She were very good at Nevereverland, would like to see them again.

Never seen AiH, but enjoy at least portions of all three records.

All up- count me in for the Wollongong show.

ummm... they're australian... we kill and milk anything we have here because, let's face it, internationally we have very little to market ourselves by (musically speaking). so when we get something, we latch on good. the presets are having an extended 15 minutes of fame in australia. worldwide, no one really gives a fuck about them (sadly to an extent, seeing as i tried to get many o/s mates into Girl And The Sea and several other of their tracks only to get told what a load of bollocks it was).

i think the person was right in saying that big shows make them miserable. Everyone said at goodvibes they were just lifeless. Theyve toured everywhere possible and cashed in on their 15 minutes. Its not called selling out because they wrote all their music before the top 10 (and all the shit that comes with it) latched on. But I'm not defending them because they certainly cashed in on it. Or their manager. or modular, who seem to overhype everything they have (tame impala anyone?).
Point being, im not going.
