Big name bands for benefitfestival

Local and international musicians have banded together for the latest bushfire and flood benefit: Sound Relief. On Saturday March 14, Sydney and Melbourne will hold Live-Aid-style concurrent fundraising concerts at their most iconic venues: the SCG and MCG.

A smorgasbord of musicians have put aside time from touring, recording or retirement for the gig, including international heavyweights Coldplay and Kings of Leon in Sydney and Melbourne respectively. Melbourne get the added bonus of seeing Peter Garrett put aside the Labor uniform for a one-off with legendary Midnight Oil, whilst both cities get a selection of some of our finest local talent, past and present, including Hoodoo Gurus, Split Enz, Jet, The Presets, and the latest embodiment of Wolfmother.

Put together by the united front of Chugg and Frontier Touring, the Melbourne shows promises to donate 100% of all proceeds to the Red Cross Victorian Bushfire Appeal, with the Sydney show splitting its proceeds between the Victorian Bushfire and Queensland Premier’s Disaster Relief Fund Appeal.

Tickets for both events are $75 and go on sale 9am Wednesday March 4.

Midnight Oil. I'm stoked by that! (Wondering if Beds are Burning will be appropriate though)

I was kinda thinking they'd be announcing the Living End. Considering they're playing everything else. (Maybe they're one of the two TBC bands in Sydney)

Poor Andrew Stockdale today, sitting there looking like nobody loved him :(

Also, Melbourne also has a few surprise acts which they won't be announcing at all.... which has fired up my curiosity.

Why is anyone surprised that the lineup is far better in Melbourne than Sydney?

The fires were in Victoria...

Well, Nic Cester said at the press conference today that Jet have a new album together, and just in case you're worried about missing out, they'll be playing both gigs - opening one, then playing later at the other. (Same goes for Wolfmother)

I'm not buying into it. Jet playing is when I wander off to get trashed. ;)

Not putting The Presets last at Sydney was a pretty piss-poor call by the organisers in Sydney. Must've been at least half the crowd that left after their set.
