We’ve always known that Brisbane propagates amazing musicians in the hot house that is our beloved music scene and it’s fantastic when the outside world acknowledges this as well.
Thus, hearty congratulations go out to local singer songwriter Tom Cooney at the news his beautiful debut album from last year, Presque Vu , has been shortlisted for The Australian Music Prize – The Amp.
This is quite an honour, with the other shortlisters being some of the biggest names in new Australian music. The full shortlist is:
Apocalypso – The Presets
Beaches – Beaches
Havilah – The Drones
In Ghost Colours – Cut Copy
Jungle Blues – CW Stoneking
Love Is Gone – Jack Ladder
Presque Vu – Tom Cooney
Primary Colours – Eddy Current Suppression Ring
Sympathy For the New World – Ross McLennan
Tom is currently in Ireland working on material for a new album, so it will be a while before we get to see him live again, but when he returns make sure you get out there and see what the fuss is about. You’ll be glad that you did.
