The divergent talents of Gang Gang Dance, OOIOO, Growing, The Boredoms’ Yamatsuka Eye, Sir Richard Bishop and Kevin Drumm have been added to the lineup of this year’s What Is Music? Onathon, touring Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane in March.

The new performers come from lands as different as Japan, New Zealand and the US, and each brings their own particular brand of musical finesse and fury to the proceedings.

The ever-mutating Gang Gang Dance brings a mix of hip-hop, experimental and rock eclecticism, while OOIOO, initially a fictitious band created for a 1996 magazine article, has previously opened for Sonic Youth in Japan. Growing’s droney, doom metal will please headbangers, while the rare performances by Yamatsuka Eye should have fans of vocal violence salivating. And that’s only the beginning – heavy-hitters such as Sunn 0))) and The Residents are already on board and ready to befuddle your ears and blow out those boundaries.
