West End Carnivale
Sun 15th Feb, 2009 in Local News
Grab your pink feather headpiece and sling on your sequinned coconut bra and head down to the Brazilian-inspired West End Carnivale!
The Carnivale, held on 9th May, will be a afternoon/night/very early morning celebration of world music, roots, reggae, arts and circus, featuring an impressive line-up of West End’s finest acts alongside guest artists from New Zealand, Brazil and Africa.
The first round announcement includes such established artists as The Nomad from New Zealand, The Bird (NSW), The Barons of Tang (VIC) and popular local acts, including Afro Dizzi Act, Georgia Potter, Chocolate Strings, Kooii and Kingfisha.
With many more to be announced, the event looks primed to follow in the footsteps of other successful roots/reggae festivals such as Island Vibe.
The bands are expected to be attired in full Carnivale get-up, and so is the crowd. With four stages to choose from, the day looks to be very colourful indeed.
The event will be held on the 9th May at Davies Park in West End. Gates open at 12pm, and the festival will run until 2am the next day. The first 300 punters who arrive in Carnivale costume will receive a free compilation CD.
