The Something in the Water documentary seems to be a thing everyone who has anything to do with music in WA is very proud of. It may have something to do with us being so far away from the rest of the nation that we often get forgotten or overlooked; it may be an old throwback to the time when the majority of us voted in favour of cessation from the rest of the country -because we had the resources to do it on our own and we were, since no one remembered we were here until the federal government needed to – œredistribute the revenue’; or, it may be the tall poppy syndrome that makes us sinfully proud that our musicians have done it tough and still manage to produce world class music…

Whatever, Something in the Water is a doco about WA bands that was released a while ago, and toured around the place, but unless you frequent the arty cinemas, you probably missed it. It has been picked up by ABC TV and will be screened sometime soon, (dates not confirmed yet) and a DVD release is planned, as well as a two-disc soundtrack album which will be launched at the Rosemount on Jan 31 this year.

Performing at the gig will be Cinema Prague, Sugar Army, Abbe May and the Rockin’ Pneumonia, and Sex Panther. Those at the gig will be among the first to get hold of a copy of what is guaranteed to be the most awesome documentary soundtrack ever.
