Kram set to release Mixtape

The mouthiest drummer in Aussie Rock, Kram, is set to release his debut solo album on March 14. He describes the appropriately titled Mixtape as “…like a radio station where all the songs sound like different bands even though it’s all played by one person.”

So don’t be expecting any balls to the floor Blackbetty rip-offs from the Spiderbait skinsman on this album. Mixtape is said to be a far more diverse offering with tracks ranging from Prince inspired soul to melancholic country ballads. Interesting.

The first single from the album, Silk Suits is out now featuring a video in which Kram has a hit of tennis at Rod Laver Arena with Alicia Molik – perhaps a reference to Spiderbait’s 1999 release Grandslam?

Check out the footage of him rocking out at Meredith Music Festival in December.

can't wait for this album! there was an article on [url=http://undercover.com.au/News-Story.aspx?id=7321]Undercover with a bit more info on what the rest of the band is up to:

'Kram from Spiderbait is preparing for a solo outing.

At his official Myspace site (myspace.com/kramofficial) Kram is streaming a rocking new song Silk Suits.

The song is from Krams forthcoming solo album Mixtape. Kram recorded the album last May in New York City.

The idea behind Mixtape is to make every song sound like a different band. I wanted it to be like a radio station where all the songs sound like different bands even though it's all played by one person The premise of the whole album was to be constantly changing your approach musically, Kram said in a statement.

This doesnt spell the end of Spiderbait. Even though the band has not released a studio album since 2004s Tonight Alright and had a best of in 2005, they did play on New Years Eve in Melbourne.

Manager Fiona Duncan tells Undercover News that "A couple of years ago the band 'retired' from the touring pub circuit when Janet had a baby, while still playing festivals. The Espy was the first Spiderbait show in Melbourne for a few years but they are actually playing festivals regularly in other states. Coming up is the Here and Now Festival in Brisbane later in January and the Coconet Classic Surf Festival at Easter".

"Outside the band Janet has been doing Illustrations for an upcoming Kids TV series and Whitt has been collaborating with melb techno musician Christopher Coe".

The video for Silk Suits was done during the tennis at Rod Laver Arena. Im a sports fan and Im not too bad with the racket. Ive always wanted to do a tennis video so when the opportunity came up I jumped at it and then Alicia came onboard happy days, says Kram about the Silk Suits video.

To get a freebie of Silk Suits head to Krams Myspace.

Mixtape will be released in March.'
