Abbe May's Got the Devil inHer

Abbe May gave us some indication when we interviewed her a while back that she was looking to have a more open relationship with The Rockin Pneumonia, and maybe try some new things, play with some new people… So it’s not surprising that she picked the more wayward members of Kill Devil Hills and the Lazy Railway to fool around with. Five days, four musicians, three chords, too many bottles of spliff wine and one Willie Dixon song later, The Devil and Abbe May has a new full length release; Hoodoo You Do

‘Just as you shall not use the Lords name in vain, so you shall not use Satans! There is power in a name! Great power and HE who uses a name calls it into HIS life!’

May isn’t worried about evangelical promises of calling Satan into her life by using his name; she points out that she’s a woman so those biblical threats don’t apply to her. Further, she continues to explain that there are several kinds of the devil, The one in her band is the fiddle player, Alexico P.R Che, the one in the Tarot is Pan, an advocate for pleasure, wild abandon and unbridled desires.

She doesn’t mind which one it is, they can all play for her she says, “because the devil knows why I wrote these songs.”

If you’re curious now, and want to see The Devil and Abbe May, the album launch is this Friday night at the Fly By Night. With a voice that growls like thunder and songs that strike like lightning Hayley Beth will be setting some fires in the audience beforehand and making sure the Devil feels at home.
