Neil Young gets 90 minutes atBDO

Rage Against The Machine is a hard act to follow, but Big Day Out has put its faith in rock – œn roll renegade Neil Young. The man has been given a 90-minute set to close the main stage in 2009, as opposed to the usual hour and a bit. It could just prove to be the festival’s masterstroke. After all, Young was making zeitgeist-defining albums while Zach de la Rocha was still rallying around his crèche with a pocketful of shells.
While the iconic songman is renowned for his expansive theatre shows, he’s equally adept at the open air thing. The Big Day Out organisers have made special note of his set at Denmark’s Roskilde festival earlier this year, which laid on the classics: among them All Along The Watchtower, The Needle and the Damage Done, Powderfinger and Heart Of Gold. So grab the nearest kid in a Bullet For My Valentine t-shirt and have a sing-along…
