Perth’s best loved festival is back for 2009 with Kings of Leon headlining. Locally programmed and produced Rock-it has been missing from our lives these past two years, but it is on again next year, to the delight of music lovers all over Perth.

“Kings of Leon” was uttered around so many schoolbags and water coolers today, you might have thought a black guy had just become president of America. They will be kicking off their album tour in Perth at Rock-it on 8th March, and as excited as punters were to hear that KoL will be in town, they were almost as excited to hear which festival they’d be playing at.

Rock it is well loved for good reason, as well as being the first festival most of us went to, the organisers of the event say they place the highest priority on respecting their patrons. A quick vox pop of anyone you know who has been to one or all of them, will confirm that they’re not just saying it to get a publicity niche.

It’s an all ages event with 18+ areas; public transport to Arena Joondalup from anywhere metro is included in the ticket price; and they have a policy of ensuring that patrons can get refreshments, a good view, a beer, or spend a penny without queuing for an hour and selling their first born child. They also promise to have the best sound quality; which won’t be too difficult, considering that some of our larger venues include a tin shed and a basketball stadium, but its refreshing to have a music festival actually considering the quality of the sound for a change. Organisers say “After two summers watching national franchise & corporate events clutter up our city with prices going up and line up quality and event delivery standards going down we’ve finally had enough!”

It’s about time.

There’s no word yet on who the others in the line up might be, but if past years are to be an indication, it should be huge. Tickets go on sale on 27th November, we’ll keep you posted with further line-up details as they emerge, but this one will sell out fast.
