Get ready to have your sex ignited people – the Kings of Leon are heading to Australia. Following much speculation that they would be returning to our shores to play the Big Day Out, our favourite preacher’s sons have confirmed they will instead be playing their first ever headline shows down under this March.

The long-awaited visit comes off the back of their fourth and most commercially successful album Only By The Night, which spawned the crotch-tingling single Sex On Fire. All that platinum and Nova airtime means a venue upgrade for the Nashville lads, who will be strutting their stuff at an arena near you in early 09.

A-ha shake heart was one of my favourite albums at the time of its release and for years but when I saw them at Falls and then at Southbound, I thought they just pressed play on the album. THere was NOTHING in their live performance to convince me that hadn't just pressed play.

I hated them for that.... still do...... they can press play on all the NOVA favourites at the entertainment centre and then all you fuckers who go to see the show can go and eat McDonalds and throw your rubbish on the ground.

I've heard a few of these stories.
My bro was at Southern80 - a weekend on the river where people drink and camp and watch water skiing and wake boarding and stuff - anyway, he was off his head and looking through the back of some car for his phone and some dude got in behind him and was telling him he was gonna "fuck him up the arse" and shit. It was the guys car, no idea why he thought his phone was in there. THEN after that happened these dudes saved him cause he couldn't find his campsite or his mates and he's still best friends with them. Oh yeah, then he climbed into a tent and curled up with a couple to go to sleep and they politely told him to fuck off haha hmmm he thought it was his tent.

Well if Napoleon offers us his sofas and some sweet Xbox love I'm there! Haha, yeah of course I remember them at Falls. I was perfectly coherent. I remember the moment well. They arrived on stage by bungee jumping out of a helicopter into a giant pool of melted chocolate. They also wore giant purple bunny outfits. The thing I loved most of that set was when they started having a rap battle against Black Rebel Motorcycle Club and Caleb started body popping.

See, I remember that night perfectly well. Shame on you for doubting me!

That's not true, they make all their burgers fresh now. So for them to sell out of something would require them to run out of some kind of ingredient, and that's just not at all possible now is it...

It's funny though, because I really like the new Kings of Leon album, and I absolutely hated everything else they've ever done.

This pissweak argument made by some about how they are sellouts etc is the height of vanity. So you liked them when they had a small following, and it made you feel special and alternative - maybe a bit superior and self-important? They are your band, noone else has the right to listen to them? Fucking pathetic - they become renown through their amazing work so they no longer possess the talent, integrity and ability to convey a message anymore? They get played on different radio channels oh my word no - how do these superior music boffins even know this? This would entail listening to commercial radio? Surely against a set of values based on self-worshipping and superiority.

It has made my day reading all the posters saying they aren't going for the above reasons. And guess what? Noone gives a shit. You are sad, and pretty sure KOL aren't going to be lamenting their choices based on the loss of your support. Its great, it helps in the chance that I, and others who possess a sense of perspective, may get hands on tickets.

aaaah how refreshing to read this post, and my sentiments exactly- well done. I have been a fan since youth & young manhood and seen them every time they have been in oz watching them go from a pretty ordinary act to watch to the great show (in my opinion) they put on now. Sure they have evolved but i dont think its a sellout, because of this i will be at the show loving it. No one gives two poo's if you arent going and every fucking concert thread with a hint of mainstream appeal has a string of self important tossers looking down their noses and sniffing how they wont be there- but why post about it?

Could not agree more. I get all pissy over bands playing the bigger venues all of the time but lucky for me though KOL aren't at the top of my list. It is tough to watch a band that you discovered become the new favourite band of all the people whose only musical input is commercial radio. It's not so much selling out but the fact you now have to share your band with tards.

Also, I'm not getting upset for being called out for jumping on anything. I've been listening to KoL for years.

I get annoyed that jaded people, like yourself, have some superiority complex and think that only the most worthy music afficiandos may like your music/bands. Then if and when the mainstream audience becomes aware of these bands - through commercial radio, or otherwise - they are somehow no longer any good.

The way I see it... if a band is good, then as many people as possible should listen to their music. If some Nova\2DayFM listener now listens to KoL instead of some pop bullshit, like The Veronicas or Katy Perry, I think a good deed has been done - that person is now slightly more able to appreciate good quality music.

Any effort to support good quality music should be commended, not criticised.

Where was I criticizing anyone? I said that I get pissy when instead of rocking up to the Metro to see a band I have to make the pilgrimage to the Hordern/SES etc. If you are happy to share bands with individuals that scream for 1 song out of 20 and constantly lob on about how hot a certain band member is then you are mother teresa, give yourself a pat on the ass.

My dad makes wine and I don't know a cabernet from a shiraz, some drink penfolds others drink cask. I catch on average a gig once a week my best mate goes to the Big Day Out every year, fuck yeah I am superior to him when it comes to music but at the end of the day he is the guy that gets into a RAAF jet for a job. Some are more knowledgeable then others but we can all enjoy the same band, deal with it.

My favourite band is Death Cab for Cutie, and I only started listening to them in 2005. I don't claim to be someone who's known them forever.

Conversely, other people that may have started listening to Death Cab for Cutie from that time onwards probably only know I Will Follow You Into The Dark.

I often come across alternative bands only once they have hit mainstream. I didn't get into Bloc Party until a few months before they released Weekend. A bands popularity doesn't really effect my enjoyment of them. If KoL didn't gain any extra popularity from their last two albums I still wouldn't go see them as I find their sound has gone backwards dramatically. If it had gone the other way and they had continued to release fun dirty rock with even more pop hooks and the albums were decent (IMO) I would be one of the people constantly hitting refresh whenever the tix go on sale.

I think its interesting seeing their huge boom in popularity, I think it goes to show how many people don't go out of their way to listen to new music.

It is painful when people jump on the bandwagon on the strength of a single and subsequently scream for that one song during a show. Most people do get a little precious about "their" band when they hit it big and every muppet & his dog jumps on board- its only natural. But to be honest this kings album was always going to launch them into the stratosphere. to me thats part of the beauty of these guys- they have released albums consistently and slowly got a larger & larger audience every time. I know the tunes have changed a little in the way they have more of a stadium feel, a bit more commercialy accesable etc etc, but if it is still great music then more power to them. Its hardly a sellout and in this case i am more than happy to keep supporting them. I just think its great to see a band put the yards in, produce great music and get rewarded by sticking with it. aha shake is still my favourite though.

same here. i was at pearl jam with my dad and we just kept saying how boring they sounded. i remember the one song the crowd kept chanting for, they said they couldn't play it because they hadn't rehearsed it
but then i gave BOTT a listen and liked that and have since listened to their other albums. so i'm looking forward to seeing them again now that i like them

okay, so i've had a bunch of people tell me to check KOL out for awhile now and i've just been too lazy so i went out and bought Only By The Night on friday, i really like it! i don't know if i'll buy a ticket, it seems kind of dumb buying a ticket to a band i've been listening to for five days, but then again i've got five months to learn all their stuff.
i'm sure a GA would be easy to re-sell (assuming i can get one).

Am listening to Wasted Time (on Y&YM) now and fuck this is a great album!
I don't care who listens to what music - I try to not judge people for their musical taste (which can be hard when you're having predrinks and your friend is searching "lady gaga" on youtube and you know your ears are about to cop a raping!).
My qualm is with the larger, less-intimate venues that will be putting KOL up to accomodate their expanding popularity.
So, depending on how fortunate I am getting tickets, I'm either going to have my arse on a seat or will be battling it out with dickheads up the front of GA in the mosh. It's the dickheads jumping around smashing people and brawling up the front that worry me, not the commercial-radio-listening, bandwagon-jumping, fluoro-wearing, Good-Vibes-attending geezers.

I got tickets to Bon Iver last week and that's at The Hifi... small, intimate, good sound. Now that's a show I'm looking forward to!

You are quite confused, if stating that it sucks when you have to go from smaller venues to the massive venues means I have an attitude then you are more of a dropkick then first thought. I like Kings of Leon and now my little sister likes them too but Kings of Leon have been popular for awhile. My sister and her friends have been gushing for weeks swapping internet photos of the boys, you try and tell me that they aren't shallow.
I forgot to ask, you still going to be throwing your fist around at the BDO? or are you all attitude and no substance?

That price probably doesn't include booking fee....which for Ticketek could add around $10.....yet another reason I HATE Ticketek, not only do they have the worst website for buying tickets, but they charge huge booking fees!!

After selling out their two Melbourne shows in less than half an hour this morning, Kings Of Leon fans have one last chance to snap up tickets to their two Melbourne shows, with a limited number of rear view tickets being released at NOON today for both shows.

Two Sydney shows, two Melbourne shows, one Brisbane and one Newcastle all sold out this morning in the blink of an eye.

with the Coldplay dates announced i decided to pass. a guy i work with had two people trying for GA tix (for their group of friends) and neither of them could get any, they're pretty pissed off haha.
i'm actually surprised about the lack of people complaining on here about how hard it was.

And I'm not complaining cause hopefully I've nabbed some free tickets anyway. I wonder who the lucky bastards were that got GA... everyone I know going has a seat. I was prepared to go GA by myself and just meet my mates after. But alas, I could not get a ticket wah wah wah (bringing the Splendour Forum to you :p)
But seriously, why the hell would you pay for a seat on the Upper level at Rod Laver? Seriously. Meh.
I think they should play Golden Plains. I think everyone should play Golden Plains!! haha

Listing all areas as "Available" but refusing to sell me tickets for either show.

Looks like I'm missing them this time around, as I'm not too keen on parting with $90+ for restricted viewing.

Within minutes Tickets were all over Ebay. Super-annoying.

I'd say it's more fair getting narky at the scalpers than Ticketek, right?
Although, I was a bit surprised to see Ticketek allowing 10 tickets to be purchased for the upper levels.

I found the way the Ticketek site would list sections as "Available" on the same page it reports "No available tickets in that section" incredibly frustrating.

Fingers crossed Ticketmaster doesn't make a meal of Arctic Monkeys on mondee.

Yeh, I agree. That was frustrating. Really frustrating! It kept giving me false hope resulting in refresh after refresh just to time me out over and over, dang it.
Oh well.
Ticketmaster are always pretty good, yeh?
Everything seems to be so hard to get tickets for these days.
Gone are the days of going into a store a few days or god forbid, a week, into a sale and getting a ticket to a concert/festival.
I remember my first Meredith in '05... I went into Snwgum (Bendigo) about 2 weeks after they went on sale and still managed to get a ticket.
