Big Day Out second lineup isin!

CHECK OUT THE SECOND LINE-UP IN PRETTY PICTURE FORM HERE.

We’ve been gas-bagging about it for months now, but now the real deal is here: round two of the Big Day Out 2009 line-up. Leading the new guard is dark master Serj Tankian, who has reinvented himself with arresting solo album Elect The Dead (check out all things Tankian HERE ). The man fronted System Of A Down on the Big Day Out circuit in 2002, and his new live show bristles with grit and theatricality.

As FasterLouder revealed last week, rough – œn tumble Boston outfit Dropkick Murphys will be whipping the Big Day Out massive into a Celtic-punk free-for-all. Another act touted by FL that made the cut is party-band-to-beat Hot Chip. It’s onstage that this five-piece shines brightest, weaving its polished electro-pop into dancefloor dynamite.

Equally explosive in front of a crowd is Lupe Fiasco – who returns to Big Day Out after leaving the country reeling in January 2007. Sweetening the deal for hip hop heads, legendary turntablist Z-Trip will also be flexing his considerable musical muscle on the ones and twos.

It’s not a Big Day Out without a few bands whose buzz precedes them. Fulfilling that quota in 2009 will be indie-rock sensations Black Kids (their debut album Partie Traumatic set off a gush-avalanche) and DFA duo/remixers du jour Holy Ghost!

And then there’s the local contingent. Roll up Died Pretty, The Vines, Infusion, Children Collide, Pee Wee Ferris, Sparkadia, The Getaway Plan, Little Red, Mammal, Mercy Arms, Ajax, Andee Frost and The Drones (east coast only).

It sold out Rex, and thats an indication that it isn't ridiculous anymore I guess.

I wonder what stages the bands are going to be on, I hope Dropkicks get a late set on one of the smaller stages rather than early on the main.

The price is ridiculous. They've got us all by the balls mate, the price goes up every year.. When will it stop do you think?!?!? ... It was also ridiculous that they release BDO, Sydney New Years tix & Good vibs all in the one week. FARK !!!:mad:

Why is it ridiculous that multiple events are put on sale at the same time?

The promoters have tickets on sale for months if they don't sell out. It doesn't matter to them whether things sell out quickly or not. The only thing it really means is that people who can't afford to pay for everything at once have to pick the event(s) they most want to go to. Surely this is a good thing for promoters as more of their customers are the people who really want to go.

I don't know whether they'd consider this, but by putting multiple events on sale at the same time, you're likely to see an older crowd going (i.e. people with full time jobs who can afford to outlay more at once), who in turn would spend more money at the event.

Promoters don't all get together and plan their on sale dates just so they give each punter the opportunity to be able to purchase tickets to as many events as possible. If anything, they probably aim to have similar on sale dates to compete with each other.

Why would Good Vibes delay their on sale date until after BDO sells out intentionally? All that's likely to achieve for them is to lose punters who splash out on BDO then decide they can't justify the expense of going to another big Summer festival. Whereas if they put their tickets on sale at the same time, more people will buy their tickets as opposed to the competitors tickets.

Life's tough. Not everything is done to make your life easier.

I dipped out just before the end as my friends has reserved me a rubbish bin to stand on for rage. It was cool and unusual to watch Brand New at a festival I must admit.

There is this thing called inflation,see here. I think that might have something to do with it.

Dang, no KOL.oh wells, cant complain withthe line up. with so many other festivals going on in january and february we cant really complain with whos coming.

Its always a great day, birds of tokyo and cog will be my happy place and dropkcik murphys i will enjoy as always and stay the entire time (my friend got crushed by a stage diver at thetivoli gig this year, kinda passedout momentarily)

I like this announcement. In fact with the exception of Neil Young I prefer it than the first.

Died Pretty are so good live. I think this lineup has a lot more substance (and less ting tings)

Spot on Dex. The second announcement is good and improves the BDO.

Disappointing. Where the fuck is. This is bullshit. Worst year ever. At least Dropkick Murphys are playing. Actually, I wouldn't mind seeing Lupe. And Died Pretty. Alright, it's not that bad. The Vines do put on a fucking cool show, I'll give em that much. Hot Chip are gonna be awesome. With fucking Arctic and Prodigy and fuck, Neil Young's headlining. It's gonna be a fucking good day.

I would imagine they'll be one of the last acts on the green stage.
For me last year it was Brand New @ BDO = WTF?

In saying that Brand New was awesome last year, late in the day, all the bogans had fucked off to the mains stages and it was only people who really wanted to see them. That was tops.

yeah that was a weird choice, however i was not complaining as it was an amazing set.

i think this lineup is way better than this year, which i thought was boring

little red, the vines and the grates are my three favourite bands. so i'm really happy. also really looking forward to neil young, and there are quite a few others i'd want to see

apart from little red and the vines, i don't think this announcement is anything amazing. but since they're on it, i don't care

It's boring compared to the Laneway, Sydney Fest, Golden Plains, ATP, Soundwave and V Fest lineups in 09. Only acts I'm interested in seeing at BDO 09 are Neil Young, Hot Chip and Lupe Fiasco.

I think there's a lot of people (in this thread especially) that need to re-assess their expectations from festival lineups. Every single line up that comes out is either "dull", "lame", "boring" or not as good as [insert other festival].
Frankly, with the number of festivals going on in Australia in recent times its just not realistically possible for all of them to have stellar lineups full of big-name international acts. THERE JUST ISN'T THAT MANY ACTS TOURING RIGHT NOW.

So how about relaxing a little bit and just appreciating the fact that we have such a wide range of different festivals to choose from in Australia, and the perfect climate to attend them.

Personally, I think the BDO 2nd lineup has plenty of nice line-up additions... especially Lupe Fiasco, Hot Chip, Sparkadia!! FTW!

Bring on BDO 09!

there's no way big day out can get the line ups it used to.. way too much competition.. and they're right in the middle of the season... my mood is dampened everytime I think back to the 2000 line up when I was too young to go... chili peppers, nine inch nails, blink 182 (in their prime), foo fighters (before theyd been here a gazillion times), chemical brothers.. basement jaxx.. beth orton.. yothu yindi... fuk it... unsure if theres been a better national one than that year... chili peppers had just got frusciante back... RHCP, foos, nine inch nails, blink (if they were still arnd) would headline by themselves these days.. thats a bloody good mix of genres as well..

I reckon this years is a sweet line up... as long as lupe comes to perth this time.. big day outs worth it even if u don't like the bands.... ya find other things at that festival that u never paid attention to before.. like the lily pad... that place is severely underated.. and they should bring back silent disco... the one they had in 06 at BDO shitted on the one they had for future music this year... think it was the fact they had it in a bumper car rink at Perth BDO.. rather than a dingy tent like at future.

Too young? I'm the same age as you and that was my second BDO - although in retrospect I was puny and quite possibly in mortal danger during RHCP, so it could be put down to some overly lax parenting. Although I'm a little ashamed I didn't really know anything about Basement Jaxx at the time so I missed out on them... however I'm not ashamed that I missed out on Blink 182, because they always did and always will suck.

So yeah, on-topic.. this line-up is still pretty disappointing. I have a rule where I need there to be three acts I'd be really excited to see to make it worth the price, but at the moment it's only Serj & TVotR for me. Boourns.

yeh, I'm backward country folk from Albany.... .my parents were worried enough about me crowd surfing over 3 people to a band playing at my schools perfroming arts theatre let alone a bdo.. then the limp bizkit set hapened the nxt year so I definitely wasnt alowd to go then.. but none the less I finaly made it the next year and to fucking tool the month after at the now defunct entertainment centre .. and havent really been the same since..

as for bdo this year I only ever knew who neil young was cos I started listening to pearl jam when I was 13 so I'm very keen to see the man live... the soundtrack he did for dead man was a belter too..so I will live on mi goreng for a week to afford the ticket I think.. 2nd line up definitely hasnt made it any worse.
