The countdown is on to the Big Day Out second round announcement and there’s now another name to throw into the – œcould happen’ basket.

Electro-pop five-piece Hot Chip have been confirmed for a warm-up DJ set at The Prodigy’s Brisbane sideshow, making it very likely they’ll be boarding the BDO bus. Whether it’s as a live unit (here’s hoping) or simply manning the turntables, the geek-chic pin-ups will make for a very welcome addition indeed.

Since their last visit down under for Big Day Out 2007, Hot Chip have gone stratospheric. The immense turnout to their set at this year’s Glastonbury Festival is a sure sign that, three albums in, they’re now bona fide pop stars. We wait patiently for the official word…
