At Splendour In The Grass ‘06, Mos Def was something of a dark horse, thrilling the Mix Up Tent with a charged afternoon performance. That was his first visit to our shores, but he’ll be getting us back on our feet in the New Year. The celebrated wordsmith has only confirmed one date so far – the Hot BBQ festival on New Years Day in Melbourne – but national shows are sure to follow.
Since his days in Black Star with Talib Kweli, Mos Def has been an incisive voice in hip hop. His forthcoming album, The Ecstatic, boasts a stellar roll-call of collaborators including Slick Rick, Madlib, Q-Tip and Talib. There’s no doubt, though, that Mos Def will be the star of the show.
