Hand-picked by curator Nick Cave to play the premiere run of All Tomorrow’s Parties Australia, psychedelic adventurers Spiritualized will also treat Sydney and Melbourne to sideshows.
Having last visited Australia in 2004, the band is this time coming as a seven-piece. The expanded ranks will come in handy when translating new album Songs in A&E to the stage, given its widescreen scope and intricate orchestral arrangements. Spearheaded by the prodigious Jason Pierce, a Spiritualized live show is sure to be astounding.
Preceding the headliner at each show will be space-rock originals Silver Apples, also here for All Tomorrow’s Parties. The New York troupe make immersive, minimalist soundscapes, tweaking electronics into psychedelic patterns. They’re something of forefathers to Spiritualized, making this a rare double-bill.
Spiritualized and Silver Apples play two theatre shows in addition to All Tomorrow’s Parties. Tickets on sale 17 October.
Thursday 8 January – Hi-Fi Bar, Melbourne
Friday 16 January – The Metro Theatre, Sydney
