Canberra: Where Art Thou?
Fri 10th Oct, 2008 in Local News
As spring has thankfully graced the capital in the last couple of weeks so has some of Australia’s best up and coming bands. But at FasterLouder we can’t help but wonder where is Canberra and all her music loving people? As you may have noticed in recent-bordering-on-bitchy reviews from your ever so reliable FL crew, more than a few of us have noticed the lower than usual attendance at high quality hows such as End of Fashion, Temper Trap and Yves Klein Blue to name a few. The mid-September Birds of Tokyo and Van She shows had good turn outs, but why so patchy?
As music lovers, it’s hard to hide our disappointment and frustration at shows where only 40 odd punters make it out, because really, we are just kicking ourselves in the guts since these bands might just drop Canberra off their touring map next time due to low turn-outs. Yeah yeah, people are busy, there is study, exams, work, Floriade ah what else? Where is everyone? We’d like to think you might be ‘saving yourself’ for the upcoming triple wammy festival line-up gracing us at the end of October and throughout November, but are you?
We’d love to know your thoughts on this perplexing Canberra conundrum – hit the forum to spill your guts.
For those of you that did get out and about over the past week, you might have hit ANU for the double head-liner of Yves Klein Blue and The Holidays or perhaps kept it low key at Transit Bar or witnessed the craziness that is Perth’s Tomas Ford crashing through Bar 32 for Gangbusters once agan.
Last night saw the lovely songstress Holly Throsby play at ANU Bar and this weekend sees 80’s pop/rock goddesses and every little girls idol (ok mine) The Bangles hit Canberra Theatre and The Whitlams bringing the tunes back to Tilley’s three nights in a row. There are of course all the usual treats and delights at Transit Bar and Bar 32 on Friday and Saturday night as well. For something different this weekend, checkout the Megafauna Festival at ANU, showcasing 15 bands on two stages for over 10 hours!
But whatever takes your fancy, we just hope to see you, we miss you! So if you are out and about at the weekend be sure to say ‘hi’, we’re the kids with the cameras and note pads madly running around town to bring you the down-low from around the capital!
