Following on from our announcement that legendary festival brand All Tomorrow’s Parties will be debuting in Victoria, news has emerged that Sydney and Brisbane will be getting in on the action too!

In a post on its website, ATP laid out some tantalising details of its grand Australian entrance. Here’s the teaser of what to expect verbatim:

1. A two day event in Victoria with both on site and off site accommodation, 30+ bands, late night DJ’s, bars, cinema and much much more.

2. A series of one night stands in Brisbane culminating in one large outdoors afternoon/evening show featuring both local and international acts.

3. A single day multi-band programme performing over two days in one of the most picturesque locations Sydney has to offer.

One of the most picturesque locations Sydney has to offer, eh? Given it needs to accommodate camping, we’re thinking either Newington Armory or Cockatoo Island – both stunning venues. The former is a heritage site located on the Parramatta River, and has worked wonders for the Great Escape Festival. After its first festival trial-run, Cockatoo Island recently hosted the 2008 Biennale of Sydney in dazzling style. Either location would be a perfect fit…

FasterLouder will have all line-up, ticketing and accommodation details on the morning of Wednesday 1 October.

ATP Australia: Sydney
Saturday 17 January 2009 – Sunday 18 January 2009
Cockatoo Island
Sydney Festival and ATP today announced that the renowned All Tomorrow’s Parties Festival is coming to Sydney Harbour’s Cockatoo Island as part of Sydney Festival 2009. All Tomorrow’s Parties will be headlined and curated by Nick Cave & the Bad Seeds.

Named after the Velvet Underground song and described as the “ultimate mix tape”, All Tomorrow’s Parties is a boutique festival that goes against the grain of the larger, more commercial music festivals. Each new All Tomorrow’s Parties invites an artist or band to headline and then handpick their favourite performers to play at the festival.

For Sydney Festival 2009, All Tomorrow’s Parties will present a one day program on Saturday January 17, which will then repeated on January 18. Nick Cave & the Bad Seeds’ All Tomorrow’s Parties will feature special guests, The Saints – featuring original members Ed Kuepper, Chris Bailey and Ivor Hay - and include performances by seminal international artists including Spiritualized, James Blood Ulmer, Harmonia, Silver Apples, Fuck Buttons, Afrirampo and Michael Gira alongside Australians Laughing Clowns, Robert Forster, Bridezilla & The Necks.

The full line-up for All Tomorrow’s Parties at Cockatoo Island will be announced on November 5, along with the Sydney Festival 2009 program. Tickets will be on sale on Monday November 10 at 9.00am from www.ticketek.com or via phone 132-849.
