A slightly quiet week for music in the capital, perhaps gearing up for a busy August and even busier spring music season. Still your reliable FL girls and boys were out and about providing the low-down on everything that’s hot!
Time has changed and like time, music has changed. Even though our music culture is currently dominated by frivolous indie & electro acts. Underneath the layers of this electro pop rock you can find there is still a lot of great new punk rock out there.Take for example, New Jersey’s punk rockers The Gaslight Anthem. These boys are currently in Australia for their nationwide tour with Melbourne support A Death In The Family and rocked out the Greenroom on Thursday night.
Canberra came out en force Friday night to witness Buick make ACT DMC DJ Finals history by taking the hat-trick. It’s the local hip hop scene’s night of nights and the Greenroom punters sure got their money’s worth… and then some. Buick will be making Canberra proud in September when he represents ACT at the DMC Australian Championships in Melbourne.
Saturday night in took us to Transit Bar for Canberra local’s Casual Projects and Free Agent Crew where despitesome ound issues, both bands rocked out and played to a packed bar.
It’s hard to mention the ‘week that was’ without mentioning our favourite festival of the year. Those that were lucky enough to borrow, beg or steal got themselves to the luscious Byron Bay for Splendour In The Grass. As always FL provided mega coverage of the event for both Saturday and Sunday as well as a Canberran perspective on the fun and festivities!
This week there is plenty to look forward to! Get yourself along to The Herd at ANU, Unwritten Law at The Venue, REV or VAMP at Bar 32, The Gin Club at Greenroom or one of the many other gigs that might grab your fancy.
Hit up the Canberra Forum to tell us what you’ve been getting yourself out to lately and keep an eye out for the FasterLouder Team this weekend.
